The ep consists of three tracks, the first is the original mix of “Terryroad”, with funky grooves, rolling percussions, and a freaky lead.

Digging deep into the pack, you’ll find an energetic reinterpretation of the title track by Larry Cadge, with a tight groove loaded for the dancefloor.

Playground Records welcomes a new talent, the Italian Sara Carrasi, who introduces his EP No Rest.

The track which gives its name to the EP is a strong stampede of sinister sound, dark tone with powerful kick, fat and rocky hi hats and whip-like claps. The basis sets up an acid modulation that carries and twists the track, giving a perverse sensation of pleasant suffering with no rest. 

Irregular Heartbeat is a sloppy trotting bass with strident leads that reminds us of Belgian sound and 90’s rave parties, only slower and surrounded by mystery. 

No Way Out follows the same front bass line with sound of smashes strings, notes of industrial reminiscences, smashy rides and shouts as a contemporary tribute to Front 242 to dance wildly. 

Western Soul becomes drier and stiff. With mysterious, whispering and hungry sounds, it transforms into a ride through an uncertain and fearful landscape, quite comforting in its weirdness. 

The high caliber remixes start with Malandra Jr, making No Rest a big beat track, trippy and powerful. 

Ray Okpara and Mobius Strum deliver a very delicate piece in dub version, full of ambient, charming sounds and bewitching vocals in an eloquent and lyrical environment

Gabriel Ferreira gives a cutting and pushing rhythm to No Rest to make it a stomper remix with claps in quarter notes, where acid tech rubs shoulders with ghetto tech. 

As a closure, an other remix by Ferreira in swing key, the 4x4 with two kicks of different accents makes us dance moving shoulders, shaking arms and nodding with a not quite common rhythm in electronic music.

Following a hugely successful joint release from Chris Carrier and Gauthier DM on AMA Recordings, boss man Ray Okpara steps up with the ‘Blue Hunt’ EP to commemorate the landmark 30th release on his very own label.
Deep, dubby and aimed firmly at the dancefloor, title track ‘Blue Hunt’ is Ray Okpara at his best. On the track, Ray said, “I was inspired while listening to my track ‘Green Hunt’, so I’ve started a series of ‘Hunt’ tracks. I found some old jazz vocals and chopped them up, turned on my Minimoog for some bass and the ride began...”
‘Espionage’ is much in the same vein, and hits hard in all the right places. According to Ray, “I found this whispering vocal and started to play around with beats and samples. This weird synth sound gave me a dark feeling but at the same time a funky, happy feeling and there it was.”
On remix duties, American producer Brett Johnson, who’s released for Eats Everything’s Edible and The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin Headz, steps up to give ‘Blue Hunt’ a tribal feel. German drum & bass outfit Bassline Generation turn ‘Espionage’ into a lethal bass weapon of a track.

A name that needs no introduction in the house music realm is Ray Okpara. Having established his name and brand thoroughly over the past decade, the German producer has reached a revered status in the underground scene. It is a true pleasure to start the new year by bringing you the enigmatic “Darijust” EP from Ray. The four track EP features two originals, and remixes from Luca M & JUST2, and Drastic Duo.

“Darijust” introduces itself with a stripped back drumbeat packing serious attitude. Thick kicks, rolling hats, and the occasional snare roll deliver a heavy foundation, while leaving plenty of air for the variety of melodic elements to shine through. A range of melodic layers flow through the track, taking the crowd on a hypnotic trip. Stepping up the tempo is the remix from Luca M & JUST2. The duo amplify the attitude by tenfold in their minimal techno remix. A hard-hitting drum best resonates through, with chopped and twisted renditions of the melodic elements paying homage to the original. This dark roller is a perfect after-hours secret weapon.

Funky bass groves take us back to the original days of dance in “Mescalin”, the second original from Ray. A tight drum groove compliments the bass heavy foundation, adding a tonnage of power. Drastic Duo flip the original on its head with their signature tech-house rendition of the original. Ray Okpara - An artist whose roots lie half in Nigeria represents today for what we understand as House: 

Percussions, drifty hypnotic beats, a touch of soul and marvellously deep.........house is a feeling and Ray Okpara has his finger firmly on the pulse, leading the way. Whilst his own roots are in Nigeria, it is actually Mannheim, Germany that Ray has helped put on the electronic music map, with a string of stellar productions on hot labels like Cécille, Oslo, Get Physical, Soweso and Arearemote and an indomitable DJ style that has seen him rock out the world’s great modern clubbing arenas.

With Ray’s distinctive style, it’s no surprise to learn that his early influences were hip-hop, funk and soul before the nightlife escapades of he and long-time friend Johnny D truly awoke his strong interest in electronic music. Impressed by the many different genres, the first attempt on the turntables was actually using Johnny's UK Garage Records. But the passion was sparked and Ray and Johnny began their own party, RAJO, which was hugely popular throughout the Rhein Necker Delta.

Another friend, Nick Curly, joined RAJO in 2001 and 'The Loft’ residency began in Mannheim, where the first seeds of something monumental were unwittingly being sown. The Mannheim influence, and the time Ray has spent living there, is tangible; during these years the technical elements of Ray’s sets developed and the groove began to take shape, thankfully encompassing all the early influences like soul and funk.

Berlin was calling in 2005 and beginning 4 years living in the city, Ray really started to blossom musically. The heralded DJ performances were soon accompanied by productions, such as remixes for Johnny D on Oslo and 8-bit or the Italoboyz on Get Physical. His first EP, ‘Fumnaya’ on Lomidhigh Lmtd and releases like ‘Frozen on Yellow Ice’ (Arearemote) and ‘Loving Moonbauh’ (Drumpoet Community) were instrumental in Mannheim’s explosion in 2008.  

On returning to Mannheim in 2009, his Brothers EP (Oslo) was a permanent fixture in clubs across the world in in the first half of the year and is one of the 2009’s most charted tracks on Resident Advisor. On the brink of beginning his live act in 2010, two further EPs, ‘Brainows’ on Soweso and ‘Tru Crowd’ back on Area Remote put Ray Okpara on the front foot going into a new decade of continued house grooves and more good times.

A crowd teaser and crowd pleaser, constantly rocking it with music to make you smile and lose yourself in the moment, Ray Okpara is coming to get you and there is no hiding place.

Amaefule, Ray’s middle name in fact, literally means “your name will never get lost” and it symbolizes the strength of identity we create through music.
