PAPI JUICE: Can you tell our community a little bit about yourself?

ODILE: My name is Odile, I’m a DJ and singer-songwriter based in Montreal. It’s important for me to be as involved as I can in my local scene, so I love to collaborate, make bridges between different groups in the city and be apart of projects, like the moonshine collective, that reflect my desire to create inclusive spaces that push creativity forward. I loved playing at Papi Juice with the collective, a while back and so grateful I can share this mix! 

PJ:Where do you see this mix taking people?

O: I love New York City and I feel so free when I DJ there. This mix reflects my impressions when I go out in NY. It’s something to listen to before the party to get in the right mood or after a night out, when you are having friends over but still want to turn up in a mellow way. 

PJ: It’s 6AM and you’ve just left your gig in Montreal; are you taking us for bagels or poutine?

Where/when do you imagine someone listening to this mix? 

This is what i would wanna hear if the clubs were open. Like if @nochelibrepdx had a comeback day party, I would play this for everyone just to leave all of their frustrations and worries on the dance floor. Since we can’t be in the club, I imagine folks playing this mix when they’re doing some cardio at home, biking up some hills, or just want a really hyped dinner party mix.

How have you been during shelter-in-place? Any insights, inspirations, frustrations? 

I’m grateful to be able to work from home and have been adjusting as best as I can! Forcing myself to move my body and get time away from screens. 

On the side I’ve been organizing @wegotnextpdx , a digital DJ workshop that prioritizes womxn of color, LGBTQIA+, & BIPOC communities (but open to anyone!), which has been so fun and rewarding to see folks get out there and start their DJ careers during Covid! BUT it has also taken up a lot of energy, so it’s been hard to find inspiration lately. There are hella memes about the world ending and DJs trying to promote their new mix lol. I feel like that - but I have realized that music + art has been a huge tool for healing and grounding myself, even if that just means appreciating the other art that people are putting out there.


Anything to look out for (new project, mix, etc) or a message to listeners?

We’ll continue to hold digital pop-up DJ workshops with @wegotnextpdx so follow us there! I also have a radio show on @xrayfm and post 30-min mixes every Saturday, more info for that in my bio. 

Also, your worth is not dependent on your productivity! This is something that I struggle with constantly, but speak that shit it into existence - you can’t pour from an empty cup
