Cresting the rise of the greatest hill in a land of rolling plains, the young explorer sighed with relief as he had come to the end of his great pilgrimage. It was from here, the legends recalled, that his forebears had first seen their home. Settling amidst the occasional copses of trees that dotted the landscape below and alongside the many streams and brooks that gave the land life, they had shared in the simple delights of existence as they worked the soil under the benevolent gaze of their many gods. To the explorer, such a life had seemed only a mere fantasy for so long. Yet, as he rested atop the hill, the land that was now reclaimed by nature seemed to brim with its promise once more.

In the thousands of years that separated him from the time of the legends, his people had moved on from such humble beginnings, finding their homes first in ever-further corners of the world and later amongst the stars. Along with the other peoples of his world, they had utilized their advanced technology to lead a mass exodus off of the planet and into the many known habitable worlds of the galaxy. In reverence to the world that had first given them shelter amidst the endless cosmos, the peoples of the world had removed all signs of their influence, allowing it to return to its most primal state. Now recognized as a holy planet by all members of the galactic federation of which his people were a part, all people of the explorer’s age were given a year to walk the lands of their ancestral paradise, allowing them to wonder at it’s natural marvels as their ancestors once did and pay homage to the celestial body that had borne forth their civilization. Thus it was that here, atop this legendary hill that yet seemed so insignificant within his full conception of the known universe, that the young explorer was suffused with the divine power that radiated from this ancient world. As he closed his eyes in communion with the planet, his spirit soared above the plains, ran through the underbrush beneath the trees, and flowed freely in harmony with the streams as he experienced a FREEDOM the likes of which he had never felt before. In that moment he knew, in the deepest part of his heart, that this was his home. No matter how far into the universe he would venture during his life, it always would be.

AGRESSOR BUNX return to EATBRAIN with FREEDOM, an EP which follows in the wake of their massive 2021 album ENSUING CATACLYSM. Amidst their characteristic complement of devastating neurofunk, FREEDOM’s title track delivers one of AGRESSOR BUNX’ most melodic compositions to date and imparts an optimistic message upon the ears of the EATBRAIN horde which sees the duo make space for a moment of reflection as they continue to lead the label’s faithful as a pair of EATBRAIN’s most veteran artists.

The mask had lain dormant for some time, a sacred relic hidden away within the temple’s labyrinthine depths. It lay in waiting for one who could bear its visage once more. For ages, there had been none of the constitution required to assume its otherworldly mantle. Many avaricious initiates to the faith had tried, only to watch in horror as their bodies were enervated by the mask’s mystical energies, crumbling into dust and death at the foot of the altar, atop which it did rest. The high priests of the temple sought its powers not, for they were of the wisdom to know that even their lifetimes of devotion would not grant them the mask’s power. Thus it was when the doors to the sanctum burst open to the cacophonous sounds of battle, and thus it was that the grand prelate of the temple grasped the mask in a moment of singular desperation.

In an instant, the prelate’s skull was molded to fit the image of the mask, which suffused its metallic surface upon his face to replace the skin that had defined it since birth. The prelate’s eyes took on a hue of faded gold, and through his veins ran an amber blood that projected its radiance in rivulets upon his skin. As the first of the temple’s invaders set foot within the sanctum the prelate began chanting in a language he knew not, and before him the vigour was sapped from the brazen assailant, who soon crumpled under the weight of the armour that he wore. As the rest of the warband began to charge across the threshold of the sanctum’s door, the prelate gaze set their eyes ablaze with a heavenly fire that burst from their skulls whilst the incantations uttered by his droning voice turned the attacker’s swords upon themselves. In only a moment, the invaders fell defeated upon the temple floor, their bodies dissolving into dust before the power of the mask’s MYTHIC IMAGE. The prophesied bearer of the relic had now come, and the time of DIVINE RETRIBUTION was at hand.

MYTHIC IMAGE make their return to EATBRAIN with DIVINE RETRIBUTION. The four-track EP burns with the sonic fury that its name suggests and with these sonics MYTHIC IMAGE rally the fervor of the EATBRAIN horde beneath their unmistakable auditory countenance as they unleash DIVINE RETRIBUTION upon dancefloors far & wide.

The forthcoming LP from The Clamps and Kosen Productions isn’t just a collection of records which the French artist has spent months perfecting. It’s also a colossal look into the soundscape which such a high-calibre artist has at their disposal. Stretching across fifteen tracks, between drum & bass and garage, The Clamps focuses around the insanity that is stretching itself across the contemporary world and how he’s helped to define this sonically through each one of his records. There’s also a host of sci-fi inspired cuts which add to the LP’s explosive themes. From the already revealed record ‘LHS 1140b’, with a name that’ll resonate for any space fans, right through to the hard-hitting throws of ‘End of an Era’, there’s a taste to suit every palette throughout every expertly composed record. 

After already setting an enviable standard with the undeniably heavyweight standards on tracks like ‘Looking for Trouble’ alongside the notorious Nuklear MC, standalone offerings such as ‘Mankind’ and ‘30a #3a-23 Happiness’ peddle an unforgettable level of engineering whilst also pushing through a cinematic backdrop. Then a range of collaborations follow in their wake, including ‘Astronauts’ alongside Impak, as well as Snotrocket for ‘Friends in the Hood’. Merikan also joins the fray with ‘Fast Way’. 

The pace is continued to be set with ‘Cattle Mutilation’, whilst Mizo and The Clamps join forces for the meticulously sequenced drums of ‘Time Pressure’. ‘Medina’ pulls you through its half-time madness whilst adding to the LP’s strident versatility, which is followed in quick succession by ‘Soul of the Abyss’ with its throbbing LFOs. The Clamps and NickBee then merge their collective talents for ‘Addicted’, with its more old-school underpinnings. ‘The First and the Last’ platforms the creeping atmospherics which characterises many pieces of The Clamps’ sonic artillery, whilst ‘End of an Era’ draws the album to a close on a cataclysmic breakdown which takes you deep into the belly of the beast. ‘End of an Era’ alludes to The Clamps’ hardcore roots, whilst paying homage to the new foundations he’s laid down through his new music and Kosen Productions.

With a history of collaboration in the form of “Reign in Hell” on PRSPCT recordings, as well as solo releases across labels such as Algorythm Recordings & Yellow Stripe Recordings, the 2 part team created by this pairing now bring their hardcore influenced drum & bass sounds to OTHERCIDE for a devastating single release. SPIDER’s initial creeping rhythm grows in stature over its introduction, quickly becoming a brash arpeggiated lead that provides the springboard for the track’s primary aspect, a sharply edged bassline that moves to a funk fueled rhythm atop a torrent of percussion. The menacing atmosphere of HATRED finds quarter with its predecessor, driven by similar tonality as its vocal sample calls forth a destructive assault of straight beat drums & a gnashing bassline, before reaching its peak in a furious flurry of its many elements combined.

‘17 years of Mainframe Recordings’ album. The LP features an eye watering 18 tracks, all of which provide a snapshot into how the imprint has evolved over the course of its expansion. Including newcomer artists who Mainframe are currently investing in, as well as those who Mainframe have had play at their raucous club nights, there’s a host of tastes catered for. And with a name like Disaszt at the helm, the album, the label and its events have been in good hands. 
Tracks like Ripple’s ‘Stranger’, Wingz ‘Definite’, and Halflow’s ‘Progressive ID’ set the mood, showing the talent which Mainframe have at their fingertips when it comes to the fresher waters of drum & bass. Then Mainframe frequenters Dubape, Phentix, Alibi and Smooth pull you into their expert riddims throughout its track listing. Breakpitt & Tenchu offers something different throughout the soundscape of ‘Flashfreeze’ whilst Picota & Kumbh’s ‘Contact’ continues the moodier vibes. Tobax’s cutthroat style is prevalent throughout ‘Overback’ and the head honcho Disaszt returns with Dorian for ‘Boom’. Having survived the treacherous path that now lay behind them, a group of ardent adventurers found themselves before the gates of a great temple, shrouded in mists atop the highest peak in their land. From within rang out a titanic voice that shook the earth with its every word, permeating the very souls of those who stood before the gate. “Hear me, supplicants to this temple” rang its initial call, “Know that you tread upon the grounds of Snake Monastery, and that you shall face many tests and trials should you seek to proceed in whatever quest hath brought you here. You now face the LAVA RUN, and should you hope to continue you must prove your worth.” These words the voice left to echo throughout the mountain peaks as the adventurers set to the task before with utmost resolve. Utilizing every ounce of their combined might, they heaved open the doors to the great temple, which shuddered open to reveal a most terrifying sight. Approaching unstoppably towards them was a boulder of titanic size, seemingly unseated from its pedestal by the gate’s monumental motion. With practiced synchronicity the adventurers sprang into action, preparing to meet the boulder head on in the midst of its fast approaching onslaught. Yet, at the last moment before their inevitable collision, one amongst the adventurers raised a single fist and struck with all of their might at the boulder’s core. With nary a second remaining before it would have crushed the party beneath its incomprehensible mass, the boulder was reduced to naught but dust, and the path forwards through the temple lay open. “It seems you are indeed of the strength to continue,” came the voice from within “but brawn alone will not grant you admittance to the Snake Monastery’s inner sanctum. Continue further, if you are truly worthy, and face the next trial!”

GYDRA return to EATBRAIN with their latest single, LAVA RUN. Following a dearth of releases across labels such as Bad Taste Recordings, C4C Recordings, EATBRAIN, and their own label Neuropunk Recordings, GYDRA’s latest single sees the duo displaying the raw force of their sonic capabilities at maximum capacity as they seek to discover who amongst the EATBRAIN horde is strong enough to complete this trial and those yet to come.
