For their first ever double-LP outing Razor-N-Tape presents POOLS, with a sun-drenched and laid-back collection of tunes called Innertubes. POOLS, the moniker of Los Angeles duo Thee Mike B and DJ Morsecode, craft a sound that conjures up the easy going swagger and soulful grit of the left-most coast. The original versions read like an album, perfect for a lazy Sunday rooftop BBQ with beers, bros and blunts, (although no doubt some of these gems will find their way into DJs' warm-up and boom-bap sets). In the span of only a couple of months, we’ve been to Australia and back almost more times than we can count. If there was any doubt before then it’s completely erased now, as the land Down Under really is one of the hotbeds for house music at the moment. @beatsofnonationradio is an Australian radio show bringing you "weird and wonderful sounds from all around the globe" and it is curated by Dom Bird, Jad Lee and Sean Bate as well as their regular guests, both local and international. Launched in September of 2015 the radio show has hosted 49 episodes thus far with guests ranging from the likes of Urulu and Fouk to the Lobster Theremin crew.

Chord Memory Band is a recent collaboration between Michael Medlycott (from the band Vulture Street Tape Gang) and Dom Bird (Beats Of No Nation co-founder and member of the live disco 4 piece Mitzi). The pair have cooked up a four track record of analog tastiness entitled « Third Eye EP ». Today, we are giving you the first taste of the B1 track ‘Donostia’. This mid-tempo jam is propped up by some vibraphone chords and crisp percussion. Swelling synth work and keyboard lines adorn the piece, echoing and reverberating into the distance, creating a remarkable sense of depth. A warm bass line adds support but doesn’t overpower the mysterious air created by the interwoven melodies of the various instruments. From strings and bells to plucked synths and keys, there’s a little bit of everything all working together in this finely concocted, ear-pleasing potion.

Next up on High Praise, we're pleased to welcome two long time friends of the label for their first collaborative venture. Introducing Rude & Mean (also know as James Rudie and EVM128). As key members of the infamous CoOp collective, they have been flying the flag for the UK's broken beat revival, turning heads with their intensely soulful productions. Supporters include the likes of Gilles Peterson, Bradley Zero and many more.
 
'Moments In Soul' and 'Just flow' are two exuberant masterclasses in how to create a joyful edit. STheir broken beat background shines through in the meticulous drum programming, giving the performance a natural, live feel and setting it apart from others in it's class. Syncopated rhythms, celebratory chords and relentlessly energetic basslines feature throughout - creating a groove so powerful you can't help but be spirited away to the dance floor. 
 
With this release High Praise continue to build their status as a label to keep an eye on, with their party series and clothing line steadily growing in popularity.

Boogie from the 'Burgh! RNT breathes new life into their 45 series with a boom-bap-laden 7' from Pittsburgh's Buscrates. A pitched down lead vocal, crisp drum programming and slinky synth work demonstrates that Mary Jane (not cocaine) is a helluva drug on the A side's 'Main Thing.' On the flip, 'F.T.F. (Freak The Funk)' explores a familiar sample from the golden era of hip-hop, recontextualized in vocoded synths, funky wah-wah clavinet, and shimmery strings layered perfectly over a pulsating disco groove. Following the release of ‘Happy Song’, the first single from forthcoming album ‘Break The Wall’, MF Robots reveal the full extended version of the song alongside remixes from Kenny Dope, Kaidi Tatham and Daz-I-Kue.

It’s only right that Kenny Dope should be the first producer to remix Jan Kincaid and Dawn Joseph’s new MF Robots project, considering the trio’s shared musical history. Kenny Dope began reworking Jan’s ‘Brand New Heavies’ material back in the early 90’s as one half of Masters At Work, helping the band reach club-land over and over again with a series of iconic remixes, recorded during the golden era of MAW’s output.

It’s no surprise then that there’s more than a hint of that special, Latin sunshine-infused mid-90’s House sound in Kenny’s rework of Happy Song, which showcases Dawn’s impeccable vocals over an infectious rhythm track and ultra-funky horn stabs. An instrumental version of Kenny’s mix is also included for the House purists, as well as the full, extended original version of Happy Song, packed with tight musicianship and more than its fair share of great grooves.

Pioneers of the UK Broken Beat movement and contributors to its most emblematic group, Bugz In The Attic, it seems almost inconceivable that Kaidi Tatham & Daz-I-Kue have never actually worked on a remix together before. As strange as it may sound, it’s true, and their powerhouse rework of ‘Happy Song’ is most definitely worth the wait.

About MF Robots:

Meeting in 2013 while recording and performing with one of the UK’s most commercially successful Acid Jazz bands, legendary UK drummer Jan Kincaid and vocalist Dawn Joseph discovered immediate musical chemistry and began writing songs together right away. They soon left the band to concentrate on their own work, starting MF Robots (Music For Robots) and releasing an eponymous debut in 2018. The album was so well received that the duo soon morphed into a band as they found themselves in-demand at venues and festivals all over Europe.

Forthcoming long player ‘Break The Wall’ represents a new benchmark for Jan and Dawn, reflecting the MF Robots project coalescing and maturing while fine-tuning their material, both on the road and in the studio.
