Listening to MADMADMAD can be delightfully disorienting, and that quality extends to the
band’s collagist and homemade visual art that accompanies their music. “History goes in cycles,
and we feel there’s a correlation with what happened a century ago, when everything was so
chaotic and people had a hard time making sense of what was going on in the world,” Benji
explains while describing how the band take cues from the 20th century’s Dadaist movement. “It feels like we’re at that moment again—where it’s quite hard to make sense of everything with so much information every day. There was quite a lot of confusion back then after the first world
war and a global pandemic, and the response of the arts was to reflect the nonsensical place
the world was at. We feel heavily influenced by that, so that’s what we put in our music and
visuals.”

Leipzig based Rose Records is excited to announce add Gledd to their impressive roster with the Keep On EP. The Italian producer’s first release includes two tracks on a split EP with Chassé on Rose 12/13. Gledd’s tracks take hold of the listener with the instant introduction of an infectious groove. The vinyl worn drums bleed into a deep reverb as the sequence progresses to warm up the floor on “Keep On.” The funky guitar riff plays a call and response to the dreamy chords on the keyboard, buzzing in and out of the groove of the drums as vocal samples are introduced throughout. The arpeggio introduced at the midway point appropriately has hints of some Italo-disco influences. The bassline breathes with the Moodymann style of choppy disco edits while the drum breaks maintain the classic feel and warmth throughout.

“Place from Space” develops this Detroit style with background chatter sample and quick vocal hits closing out sequences to introduce new flavors. With strings and horns complimenting funky riffs and sustained disco keyboard melodies the groove rolls on and on and on. Suitable for that moment that the night turns from disco to deep house or even a sunset set, “Place from Space” plays seamlessly in any room ready to get down.

Rose 12/13 will be the first “real” split EP on Rose Records and also features two new additions to their label. The 12” will be available on 180g vinyl via the Rose Records Bandcamp on June 22nd.

"Super smooth groove-smiths Whiskey Disco have distilled another disco bomb here. Thoma Cher is the supplier of the good times via, firstly, the pure party gem that is "Holiday Holiday", on an EP that marks Cher's first solo outing on this label. "Dancer" is an uplifting track with a warped bassline that wraps itself round the sliding hi hats and loose drums as boogie synths add colour. "Be My Love" is an instantly recognisable gem with a fat bassline slowed to a sensuous pace overloaded with breathy vocals. Great stuff."

There’s a new Technicolor musical phenomenon emitting from the Morphogenetic Field… Known as The Emanations, this new project will act as a vessel for Greg and Ché Wilson to explore a new cut and paste approach to production. Sending fragments of classic and cult classic dance tracks through their sonic prism to create fresh hybrids.

The past couple of years have been prolific for the pair in the studio, turning their hand to a number of varied official remixes, including Sleight Of Hands’ 10CC cover for Green Gorilla Lounge, The Cuban Brothers cover of Razzy’s Northern Soul classic, Heavenly Records Melbourne-based outfit Confidence Man, Hipnotic’s early ‘80s boogie, Brooklyn collective Underground System on Soul Clap Records, Serbian electronic live act Bella Technika and the Confidence Man-affiliated Jungle Giants – with further mixes delivered and in the pipeline.

The Emanations project has been developing alongside this plethora of remixes, with Greg and Ché utilising stems provided by Tyrell, the Canadian-based multi-instrumentalist also responsible for replaying the parts for Rolling Stones/Massive Attack mash-up ‘Two Sides Of The Sympathy’ and SWS Chemise cover, ‘She Can’t Love You’.

‘Love’ is the first offering from the project, and links back to the beginnings of Super Weird Substance. Like with the label’s debut release, ‘Summer Came My Way’, the song was originally written by Greg Wilson and performed by The Reynolds for Schooled In The Classics.

This time however, it was mixed down at SWS HQ. Blending and fusing Tyrell’s re-recordings, GW and CW fed The Reynolds through a vocoder, inviting deeply emotive flautist Manon McCoy to add a delicate layer of ethereal magic.
