After I’m gone, how will my children remember me?
What about their descendants – all of my progeny?
Will my grandchildren know anything about their grandfather?
Will they research my endeavors or even bother?

Will they look upon me as an honorable patriarch?
Did I travel down the proper path and leave my mark?
Have I shown true paternal love for every child?
Will my family deem my legacy worthwhile?

Will they celebrate my music or sing my songs?
Will they appreciate my stand against society’s wrongs?
Will they know me in photos and recognize my face?
Did I impress their souls with the message of God’s good grace?

Can all the old stories paint a picture that was true?
Will my mistakes serve as lessons on the pathway they pursue?
Was my life a good model and stood out from the crowd?
Is my legacy sufficient to make the family proud?

Should I have spent time with my children a little more often?
Is there enough time before I’m lying in my coffin?
Will they remember me with joy and refuse to be sad?
Will they know how much I loved them in the short time we had?

Will they celebrate my music or sing my songs?
Will they appreciate my stand against society’s wrongs?
Will they know me in photos and recognize my face?

Never Met His Winter

He never looked for a reason why his guilt kept him from the light
His only friend was whiskey, he drank a whole bottle each night
Did God forsake him or abandon him outright?

He died in dirty clothing, well-worn, old, and tattered
A life of false promise was now completely shattered
His empty life to those around him never really mattered

He once bowed his head and prayed for God’s redeeming grace
And hoped to one day look upon His shining face

Will you help me celebrate his life, at least for today?
Can we celebrate his life although he never found his way?
