I’m really glad to finally release this mix that I’ve been working on for a while. It is dedicated to the memory of my mum Ileana and my dear beloved friend and music partner David Alexander Yeoman, who have both passed recently. 

The first track 'Săracă Inima Me' which I sing on, was composed and recorded by David in the Carpathian forests and I discovered David Walters’ song Mama after my  mum’s funeral, on my way back from Romania. It discusses the life advice one's mum gives you and it mixes into Henrik Schwarz 'I Exist Because of You '– and I exist because of my mum.

Jules, aka Abstract Source, who worked on this mix with me, also helped to mash up two favourite songs of mine Wildfires by Sault and Apricots by Bicep, under Abstract and Nico collab.

For the end of the mix I chose a song from a favourite Ukrainian band DakhaBrakha, 'Nad Dunaem', which is about a woman overlooking the Danube who knows she needs to throw herself in and swim to the other side.

As with all my mixes I feature songs that talk about the challenges we face as humanity on this planet – and this seemed particularly poignant, given the situation in Ukraine and people fleeing across the Danube to Romania.

The last voice you hear on the mix is David chanting an African song, alongside his Khimera band member Tim Slade, which translates as ‘Mum You’re Gone, But Not Far Away’ – a song that they wrote in memory of Tim’s mum. I thought it felt particularly relevant as this mix is dedicated to the memory of my mum and David and although they are both gone and people we love pass, I like to think that they are not that far away.

The past 18 months (since the last time I posted my Fusion recording) have been truly memorable for me, with many unforgettable experiences all over the world, new places, new friends and above all some amazing support along the way. I am grateful to have this opportunity to travel around the world to stages where I can expose my music. 

One of the key moments came back on April 1st when I closed DGTL Amsterdam’s Frequency Stage. I was exhilarated throughout, and I felt that I achieved a very strong connection with the people that were there that day. So much, so that I decided to go back to my studio to record the set again, so that I could share it with everyone once more here. Thank you to everyone that let this set come alive. For our UCR podcast # 061 we present you @bliznochi - multi-talented artist from Moldavia, based in Hamburg. His music style is characterized by ethnic instruments and organic sound, integrated into mesmerizing blends of voice samples, grooving loops and beats.
The set he has compiled for UCR is a collection of his own music, plus a few remixes realised by his friends. In anticipation of his upcoming EP "Pe Malul Nistrului" on Urban Cosmonaut, Bliz Nochi has dedicated this mix to the Nistrul. It is the name of a river in Moldavia of which shores he has grown up, capturing the tradition of local culture.
As the river flows from place to place, so does his set. Tracks and arrangements blend into one another as acoustic postcards from the different places where one could possibly travel across. Including the inner world.
Bliz Nochi's goal is to make his listeners travel with the music in space, fulfilled with their emotions and free them from emotional stress.
So we invite you to close your eyes, relax, and start the journey. And wherever it leads you - feel free to move, dance, jump, scream! Liberation comes with action.
