Punjabi music has slowly but surely matured since the days of the ubiquitous Bhangra to a more contemporary sound not merely due to its instrumentation, but due to its styling too. Take music director-cum-singer Pavneet Singh Birgi’s ‘Mud Aaja Sohniye’ as an example as the musician ventures into modern day sounds of hip hop that resonates pleasantly, growing infectious with repeated listening. Pavneet appears to have an obvious interest in the present sounds around the world, and has blended it well with those of the past to create the Punjabi sound of the future. Although I admit that I have not visited a disc[o] of late, ‘Mud Aaja Sohniye’ certainly would not sound amiss here
