Maestro’s only film for NTR
“Don” – One of the highly acclaimed formula films which became sensational hits in all the languages it was remade in the late 70’s and early 80’s. In all the Don films, the making and presentation were always stylish and the Lead actors played the roles exceptionally well. However, all the early Don movies lacked stylish presentation in songs and BGM except this remake starring NTR & Jayasudha and the reason is too easy to guess. 
Listen to this song from the film “Yugandhar” which was the only film Maestro scored for N.T.Rama Rao. This 5th Direct Telugu film was released in 1979. Supreme work in Bass guitar, Electric Violin and Keyboard add style to a Don film’s music track. The melody has classical touches throughout the composition. 
In the Audio formats, only two preludes were provided but the film had three preludes. I have uploaded the CD version which has 2nd and 3rd preludes. I have also added the first prelude which figures in the film after the end of the CD version.  
Exactly 25 years after the release of this film (2004), Maestro was selected for the “NTR NATIONAL FILM AWARD” but due to political reasons, the award was given only in 2007 for all the recipients from 2003 – 2006. NTR National Film Award is an award instituted by the state of Andhra Pradesh in the honour of N.T.Rama Rao.

Maestro has always changed his composition styles from time to time. But this style comprising the orchestration in Major Scale and Melody in the Raga “Anandharupa” has been in use till date including the recent hits Sayndhu Sayndhu from NEPV and Chellam Konjam from Megha. Many identify this wrongly as Mohanam. There is an addition of the note Ni3 in both Arohanam and Avarohanam which has a unique name “Anandharupa”. Thus Anandharupa’s Arohanam and Avarohanam are Sa Ri2 Ga3 Pa Dha2 Ni3 Sa”. Sa” Ni3 Dha2 Pa Ga3 Ri2 Sa. While the Orchestration would contain the full Major scale (Touching the note “Ma1”), the melody does not touch Ma1. So Anuradhapura can also be easily described as Shankarabharanam minus Ma1 (OR) Mohanam plus Ni3 in both Arohanam and Avarohanam.
