Just a little jam on a Saturday morning, a riff into and idea then well why not jam.
And thus boys and girls, "But Of Course I Just Might" was born, recorded and mixed @ our little homestead - Broken Glass Ranch, High in the Wet Mountain Valley Colorado.

Once I read a line that went like this: "Juxtaposed like the spit on a jazzman lip" Not sure what it means, although it really stuck with me for many years. Anyway, this piece is a sketch of the idea of juxtaposing things together, side by side in space and time.

Soundcloud like life itself is full of surprises! I love life and the magic of living in such a strange world full of random and coincidence, ah but there are no coincidences you say. Well I agree and in that light: one day about a month ago a creative and witty artistic man sent me a message asking," -Are you interested in sonifying the poem below, based on the Beowulf-myth?-",  I readily agreed. And after a bit of back and forth between Jo Richter- the artist poet in question- and myself the gauntlet was laid before me. I have to admit a few things as I told Jo, really I am not much of a slinging singer, but rather a fellow that makes music without words. Upon occasion I do write and try to sing or at least do justice in the story I am telling using my voice. It isn't easy and always a bit uncomfortable for me. But Jo insisted I use "use my voice" sonifying his poem. 

I have to admit I was overwhelmed and some what intimidated at the task at hand. So after a bit of delay in making the track I sent Jo a message stating I was slow to make the track due to the homestead farm/ranch I live on. You see on our homestead we raise goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and ducks and that doesn't include the wildlife that is in abundance here in the mountains of Colorado, including birds large and small, black bears, mule deer, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats and mountain lions too. I imagine you get the idea of our mountain homestead reality. 

Anyway, Jo was so excited to hear about all of the animals he suggested I use them in the piece, thus we had the basis of out collaboration. For me everything is about sounds. I always try to tell a story in the music I create as that is how I see myself as a storyteller with and or without words.  So there you have it boys and girls the behind the scenes insight into our little work of art.

Apart from the poem, I added field recordings and partook in the editing.
narration: I live in a region that is home to some space industry – more importantly however, this region is also home to marvelous nature. This poem is nourished by many concepts and theories, most notably the colonial ideology of space as the „new frontier“ as well as Whiteheads „fallacy of misplaced concreteness“ and Nagel‘s thoughts expressed in „What is it like to be a bat“. It is also fed by the human-tamed beauty of reed landscapes around lake Federsee which can be seen in the photo I took.

welch unvorstellbare macht
muss die masse im erdkern
beleben, das wasser, die erde,
die wurzeln sicher zu halten

zu wahren, die landschaftsfalten
wie eine große gebärde
ins weltall zu richten, das fern

Stepping out of the opening
at the foot of the spire, facing
the gaping, gasping plaza, the sun
behind him blotted out by the lean,
white purveyor of contemplation, he
shuddered the way one trembles
after narrowly escaping the lure
of prolonged exultation.

Up there, he knows, his muse
still combs and grooms the knotted
wisdom of her braids, humming
a tune of beauty. Up there, he
knows, rests his legacy in verse, scrolls
upon scrolls of scribbled glyphs,
each one a masterpiece of his
heightened sensory exaltation.

This is no path that could have been
avoided, she crooned into the waxen
ear of his remaining memory, as art
has always longed to be subjected
and enslaved, to suffer the necessity
of being forged on vulgar vices. Oh
for the kiln that never foregoes fire, he
would have wailed in common fury.

Is there a place where one who has
abandoned home can rest his head,
he asked. This world is made of places,
a passer-by replied. How can he who has
rescinded wells still quench his thirst, he
asked. All life is born from water, a passer-by
remarked. Who in the world are you, he
quizzed a passer-by, who would not answer.

And all the homes he saw were made
of brick and mortar, colour and concrete.
And all the forests he walked were brimming
with the secret of the spooky action at a
distance. He dared not raise his eyes too far.
He did, although, not hesitate to tame
his fears, revulsions, lusts, ambitions.
Yet all he touched turned into song sublime.
