“re:||mashed” – a mashup mix by re:||pete

I’ve always been fascinated by the art of the mashup. They say some things are never meant to be combined together, but the mashup defiantly says otherwise. 

I recently completed the “Learn to DJ with Traktor” class that is offered by ENDO on Berklee Online. The class served as an insightful tutorial on the art of mixing tracks within Native Instrument’s DJing software: Traktor Pro. On the latest iteration of the Traktor Pro software, there is a new ability to create stem tracks (isolated elements like drum, bass, vocals) for pre-existing pieces of music. This is in turn allows the ability to mashup vocal tracks with instrumental tracks that might never otherwise be glued together. 

This mix is my attempt to mash together that which would seemingly not combined. In other words, this is my mashup of mashups…

The repeat sign :||

A musical symbol that signals the repetition of something that has come before—a call to go back and revisit that which has already occurred. 

It represents the past, and yet it also represents a move to the future—a call to change. 

It offers a challenge: what can we add to the  familiar that makes it shine anew? 

That’s a question I aim to answer with my music.

I’m a music student, turned music teacher, turned music producer. 

Music has been there with me since the beginning. It will be there for every repeat to come.
