Patterns can be confusing, and you may not know what’s too much or too little. Do you match everything with the same pattern? Do you even know what all of your pattern options are? Don’t worry! Solids won’t bring as many compliments as patterns will. Stripes are the easiest to bring into your wardrobe. Checks are stripes going both directions. If you like solids but want to bring in a pattern, consider a herringbone weave. Florals are best for neck ties and pocket squares. The larger your dot, the more casual it becomes. Patterns don’t need loud crazy colors. It’s easier to lose accessories if you start to feel uncomfortable. Don’t have same sized patterns next to each other. It’s been used for protection and style since the beginning of time. The only problem is most people don’t know what they are looking at. When making a purchase one a material like this, you want to know you’re getting a deal. There’s actually a lot to consider when buying leather. The first is what you’re going to use it for. Is it something that is just going to be for show, or is it something that’s going to get a lot of use? Do you want a softer leather, or something a little harder? Download this episode now to learn how to identify the right leather for your needs, and how to know if you’re getting a good deal or not. 4 Things You Should Look at When Buying Leather:  Grade Layers Finish Thickness  Highlights:  You don’t always need the best grade of leather. 1st grade is the best, 4th grade is the lowest quality. You wouldn’t want 1st grade on the bottom of a shoe, or where things are used a lot. Full grain means the top layer. Colored leathers come from a dye applied to the top layer. Thickness is usually measured in ounces. The animal is comes from will determine how thick and how soft it is. Picking a belt to go with your shoes isn’t as simple as black with black and black with brown. Today shoes and belts both come in a wide variety of colors. Browns come in all hues, and you can find nearly every color of the rainbow. So can you match a light brown belt with dark brown shoes? Is it ever appropriate to wear another color belt with black? 104: How to Match Your Belt with Your Shoes

We all make some of these mistakes, and I’m not exception. One example is having your hands in your pockets. This can send a lot of different signals to people, and it’s never a good thing. Some people think you are hiding things Others thing you don’t care enough to take the time to engage with them. In any case, having your hands in your pockets really does limit you. You’re going to be less expressive. You’re going to be less visually engaging. One trick I use is to touch my wedding ring from time to time when I’m speaking. That forces me to leave my hands out of my pockets. Other people might prefer to hold items, like pens. The other thing to remember is to make sure these things don’t become excessive and distracting. I have plenty of more habits to go over in this episode, and a lot of tips on how you can break them. In fact, I’m sure you’ve encountered this problem before as well. What color of dress shoe should you buy? Black or Brown? Even though the question itself is simple, the answer can be very complicated. There are a lot of factors you should be considering before you buy a pair of dress shoes. For example, when you wear them how formal are the occasions you will be attending? If you go to a lot of black tie events, then there’s only one option for you: black. Brown shoes will never be as formal, and the lighter they are they less formal they will be. On the other hand, you will never be able to buy a pair of black dress shoes that look casual. Their strength can also be their weakness. There’s also so much more to consider, such as your existing wardrobe, how much the shoes will take to maintain, and even what style of shoe you prefer. Chances are, you’re sending off signals you don’t want to. For example, if you don’t give people enough eye contact you can seem rude. You also make the person feel as if they are boring, and that you aren’t interested - even if that’s not the case. On the other hand, if you give them too much eye contact it can seem aggressive. They may become intimidated, and quite frankly, think you’re being an ass. So what is the right amount of eye contact? Well, it’s honestly a complicated answer. It can change with the culture you are in, as well as the situation. A good rule of thumb here in North America, though, is the 50/70 rule. When speaking, make eye contact 50% of the time. When listening, make eye contact 70% of the time. I really wanted to dive further into this topic and go over all the complexities of the discussion. Not giving enough contact can make you seem weak. Don’t let your eyes dart away. To avoid nervous eye contact, count in your head. 3 to 5 seconds in the best amount of time to look at someone when you meet them. Don’t stare at people’s feet or looking away. Eye contact show that you are paying attention. If you’re not listening with your eyes, it can be disrespectful. Don’t get caught staring off. Pick one eye to look at. Try to discover what color their eyes really are. Do not stare at a woman’s breasts when you are speaking to her. You have to practice giving eye contact.
