Here’s the recording of a very special edition of The Real Deal Country Show on KOPN Columbia Missouri 89.5 fm. I paid tribute to my cousin, my hero and the reason I wanted to be on the radio, Marvin McClanahan. I visited with Marvin’s wife Rebecca McClanahan (starts at the 3:30 mark), Marvin’s cousin Jerry Minshall (starts at the 1:38:35 mark) and Marvin’s co-host Helen Adams (starts at the 2:05:07 mark). Included were air-checks aka on-air clips of Marvin with his side-kick’s The Old Man and Chippy, his award winning editorial and the announcement at the CMA Awards Show when he won the 1985 CMA Small Markets DJ of the Year. Included in this recording is the second portion of my conversation with Jerry Minshall (starts at the 2:58:03 mark) which I didn’t have time to include on the air. Jerry was Marvin’s hero and inspiration, his reason for getting into radio. Both these men were my idols growing up as I dreamed of someday being a DJ. Enjoy my way of saying thank you to Marvin.
