First release from The View from Afar, a six-track all instrumental project exploring the concept of distance, both inwardly/emotionally and physically.

Lovers, Distantly may describe the experience of trying to cross an impossibly huge gap, or merely to imagine such. Who or what is so far away? A place, a person? Ourselves? Nothing?


The track itself uses recordings of percussion instruments recorded to portable cassette deck, with the cassette then dubbed to other cassettes seven times, then committed to the music. Percussion instruments include: helium canister, ironing board legs, CPU heatsink (strummed with a quarter), loose snare drum head (used for kick), and more. The cassette noise was also turned into a sample "organ" of sorts. And the Korg MS-20 mini features heavily in this cut, as does the Arturia Analog Lab suite.

Two of the effects pedals I used on the guitar were the Way Huge Echo Puss, which is an incredibly gorgeous modulating delay, and the Catalinbread Heliotrope, an analog spin on sample rate reduction & bitcrushing sounds.
