Marcus Antione Melvin (born November 11, 1989), who records under the mononym Twain, is an American born recording artist from Philadelphia, PA. Twain began to make his mark as a recording artist with the release of his first mixtape which he recorded while attending The Pennsylvania State University.

Twain was born in Jacksonville, NC while on vacation with his mother, father and older sister. His father was active in the Marine Corps and Twain traveled a lot while he was young but his home has always been Philadelphia. His parents divorced while he was only 8 years old and he went on to live with his mother and sister in North Philadelphia. Twain is the second of his mothers four children, with an older sister and two younger brothers. Twain was very gifted intellectually attended one of the top high schools, Central High School, in Philadelphia before being accepted into the Honors Program at the Pennsylvania State University. Twain spent a few years at Penn State before leaving for personal reasons just a few credits short of graduating but plans to finish in the near future.

While Twain always had an affliction for music, writing his first song at the age of 11, it wasn't until he began attending Penn State that he actually began making music. After meeting friends Isak (Ice Man) Handal and Dezz (Sly C) Elijah, Twain began writing and recording raps with the two. In 2010 Twain, along with Sly C, founded DaVille Music Group, a music group consisting of the group of friends as well as a few other friends. In November of 2011, Twain released his first mixtape "The Third Dimension" which was well received amongst the students at Penn State. He caught eyes as the single "What A Life" became a major song amongst his constituents. The Third Dimension caught the eyes of a few individuals and in July of 2012 Twain signed a recording contract with Truth Records, an independent label based out of New York City. Twain recently released his label debut mixtape "Genesis" on December 4, 2012 on Getrightmusic.com and features the singles 'Visions' and 'Between Life & Death.' The project features production from producer Harry Fraud and and up-and-coming producers Austin Millz and Fresco Stevens. Twain says, "I'm very excited about the project and the people will be in store for something amazing." Only time will tell.

Twain describes his music style as true hip-hop. He derives the content for his music from real life experiences and using his command of words and capable storytelling to uniquely portray the messages in his music. He credits artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Tupac Shakur, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco and Wiz Khalifa as major influences for his music. His ultimate goal is to be remembered as one of the greatest rappers of all-time. He wants to use his music to not only entertain but to tell the story of life growing up in Philadelphia and the problems one faces on a daily basis. He believes people will relate to his music because it's honest and genuine.
