@jonathan-kusuma is an Indonesian-born, Singapore-based DJ and producer. Gaining his name from various releases on labels such as I’m A Cliche (Paris), Cocktail D’amore (Berlin), Correspondant (Paris) and Love On The Rocks (Berlin), he is also active in doing many remixes for labels such as Hard Fist (Lyon), Throne Of Blood (New York), Calypso (Mexico), Roam (Los Angeles) and many more. Global recognition for his work is marked by international tours, playing in some of the coolest parties and venues in the world such as Opium (Vilnius), Berghain Panorama Bar, Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Savage (Hanoi), Karma Castle (Bangkok), just to name a few. In Singapore, he is a resident DJ at HQ The Council, building a reputation with his monthly all-night-long 6 hour set.

Despite being based in Singapore, Kusuma remains an active member of the dance music scene of his hometown Jakarta. With Aditya Permana, Ridwan Susanto, and Benedict Pardede, in 2016 Kusuma started Dekadenz, a collective label known for its left-field parties that has since garnered a heavy local following. In the early 2000s, Kusuma was a regular at parties organized by Permana and Susanto, drawn to its non-commercial, community-based vibes. At a time when Jakarta was strictly dominated by house music, these parties brought obscure disco, post-punk,  electro-clash,  and beyond to the dance floor. They were about offering something new to the scene, a spirit that becomes revived by Dekadenz.  

Kusuma’s earlier years of music exploration was marked by a period of listening to what was then called “alternative rock music”, which was booming in ‘90s Jakarta. Initial obsessions with distorted guitar sounds led him to discover the sounds of saw tooth waveform synthesizers, which then opened up the world of 808 drum machines, used to replace acoustic drums. Remixes of respected DJs from San Francisco were also hugely influential for Kusuma during this time. 

In the early 2000s, Kusuma formed the band Space System and label Space Rec with Adhianto Aryo and Pattraditya Pangestu to explore and represent the music and talents of Jakarta. Both the band and record label wanted to probe into, on one hand, Indonesia’s musical traditions, and on the other, electronic music in a wider sense. Space System and Space Rec had a significant impact for Kusuma, and brought recognition from labels and artists they looked up to such as Optimo Label and Cosmo Vitelli. Following Space Rec, Kusuma was involved in the setting up of Akamady, a record label owned by Gerhan Ferdinal a.k.a. Komodo. Through Akamady and Space Rec as labels, Kusuma gained a wide range of experiences in managing a label, from curating both label’s releases, organising events, shaping the branding direction to designing graphics for logos and sleeve artworks. 

Fast forward to 2015, Kusuma began playing at Cocktail d’Amore parties, which further broadens his perspective on what dance music could do as a scene: having a sense of purpose beyond mere entertainment and attempting to facilitate some kind of change. The open-mindedness and solidarity experienced at these events run parallel to Kusuma’s deeper interests in, as shown through his various projects, continuous exploration of new skills and new boundaries, being receptive and adaptable to ever-changing contexts.

The first release on OO Recordings’ sub-label Final Drapes presents an electrified and genre-bending EP by DJ Xanor. This release - titled Hybrid EP - features two original cuts with two distinct remixes to top it off. Expect fast turns laced with odd twists and a bit of contemporary techno flavor.

DJ Xanor presents the Hybrid EP, a headbopping new release that dives deep into the digital abyss of contemporary electronic music. Eschewing traditional genre norms, the EP presents a sound that is as playful as it is profound, with hints of fast-paced, almost braindance-y synth works paired with driving drum machine patterns and dizzying sweeps of bass. What better way to kick off OO Recordings’ new sublabel than having DJ Xanor break his hiatus for a two-tracker like this.

The Hybrid EP is a showcase of intricate and high-velocity electronics, both original tracks buzzing with a unique, digitized personality. It’s music that feels both meticulously crafted and joyfully chaotic, blending razor-sharp rhythms with a rich tapestry of synthesized textures. Xanor's signature sound feels less like a hands-on deconstruction of modern digital soundscapes. This blend of multiple stylistic layers of electronic music is highlighted by the two remixes that both dial into their own focal point of the original Love Me track. Member of Kyiv’s Flower Broadcast System, Mootney takes the track on a percussive workout session with familiar sounds of Love Me being rearranged and remangled into a very Mootney-esque trip. Wrapping up the release, another mysterious Finnish producer, Disto turns the original into a rave tool with almost Suomisaundi-like psy-trance hints.
