BUILDINGS was born out of a creative merger between Detroit's 313 Acid Queen (Rebecca Goldberg) and Italian maestro SickBoy (Stefano Piseddu), their 4th and 2nd released on Detroit Underground respectively. The duo have thoughtfully arranged a half dozen tracks inspired figuratively and literally by the landscape of Detroit. Working 7,000 km and multiple time zones apart, having never met in person, their individual expressions intertwine in soundscapes reminiscent of techno's origin and exists in a way only capable in our present time. Devoted as ever to the roots of Detroit techno, Goldberg and Piseddu have built a magnificent album around the Detroit Map Series theme conceptualized by DU label founder Kero and designed by Neubau Berlin.

Rebecca Goldberg is a DJ, producer, live performer and designer from Detroit, MI. Since her debut release, 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, Detroit Underground.

Women in Vinyl Mission Statement: Empowering women, female-identifying, non-binary, LGBTQ+, BIPOC and otherwise marginalized humans working in the industry to create, preserve and improve the art of music on vinyl.

The Women in Vinyl Podcast is meant to enhance and expand what the platform already exists to do, facilitate conversations with those working in the vinyl record industry to educate, demystify and diversify the vinyl community.

Rebecca Goldberg Women In Vinyl All-Vinyl DJ Mix

Rebecca Goldberg is a multidisciplinary artist from Detroit who combines her skills in the musical and visual arts to craft a lane entirely of her own. For this release, she invites her friend Jon Dixon to join her and the results capture each of their signature sounds, weaving them together into something new. 

Rebecca met Jon in 2017, and was responsible for designing the artwork on Jon’s 4evr 4wrd label releases. This led to Jon showing Rebecca around the keyboard so she could learn how to play the theme from Westworld. Eventually, after a few years, she decided it was time to suggest they collaborate on some music. The result of that collaboration is the track “Our Morning”, which is now being introduced into the world on this very special release. 

Kicking off with hazy strings and a broken 909 beat, “Our Morning” creates an atmosphere of anticipation. As elements are added the tension builds, with melodic snippets slipping over and under one another. Acid tweaks slowly start to intensify, ushering in an explosion of pure hi-tech soul at the track’s peak. If sunlight breaking through clouds had a musical accompaniment, this would be it. Jon’s melodic and harmonic sensibilities mesh wonderfully with Rebecca’s machine groove, splashing the dancefloor with optimism in these trying times. After that release, the come down is handled elegantly, bringing reality slowly but surely back, while we bask in the warm glow of the journey just completed. 

Music this special deserves a special presentation, and Rebecca’s devotion to creativity in all aspects of her work shines through here. An excerpt of “Our Morning” is etched into a 5”x7” flexidisc postcard that you can play on a turntable, which features the work of local photographer Ryan Southen. The Ambassador Bridge stands in the foreground, connecting Detroit and Windsor, with the cities lurking in the back. The postcard is limited to 250 numbered copies, and purchase includes a high-quality digital file download of the full track.

313 Acid Queen DJ Set At Marble Bar - Detroit - 22072022

Goldberg released the A1 and first single, Bleikur, a fast-paced 909/303 workout accompanied by a music video premiere created by Georgian photographer Nina Nayko. The A2 title track, Bónus, waxes squelchy and post apocalyptic while the inside track, N.A.O., blends intricate layers of synths and drum patterns creating a dream-like experience. In addition to her original tracks, Rebecca enlisted the help of three producers from the North to provide their own unique takes on Bleikur (it means Pink in Icelandic).

Rebecca Goldberg is a producer, live performer, DJ and designer from Detroit. Since her debut EP, 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, Detroit Underground. She has released high-quality music and multimedia projects spanning acid techno to experimental electronic music. Carrying with her the tradition of Detroit Techno, Goldberg tours internationally as a DJ and live performer. Rebecca is a seasoned radio DJ having mixed for FM and internet-radio shows hosted across the globe. She has been featured at notable events from Detroit’s seminal Movement Festival to Tresor in Berlin.

In her live show, Rebecca focuses on sound design and the improvisational capabilities of working with electronic instruments. The result is her presentation of an energetic array of lush techno soundscapes. In early 2023 she produced a show called Upphljómun during the Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival to showcase live performances
from herself and several Icelandic artists. The event led to her penning an editorial piece published by Roland Corporation. Goldberg often incorporates original field recordings into her work. In 2022 the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop released a selection of recordings she took throughout her native Michigan for their Travel Agency project. Goldberg has written original scores for classic films, “Le Voyage Dans La Lune” and “Gojira,” which included live performances at Silencio, David Lynch’s members-only club in Paris, and Armageddon Beachparty in Detroit.

With several EPs, remixes and live releases under her belt, Goldberg has refined her style while allowing her audience to discover and appreciate her unique sound. Her dedication to keeping Detroit techno music innovative is her motivating force.
