Midnight Star- David Friedman

This project called for a strictly one minute long chamber piece. It depicts certain frustrations that accompany dealing with chauvinistic and arrogant musicians. It is completely different from anything I have ever written. Enjoy!

Manic Economics

This short piece was part of a bigger project entitled "A Song of Two Cities" that I spearheaded in the spring of 2013. 

ASOTC was a collaborative event that set music to the Frank Lloyd 1917 production of A Tale of Two Cities. Scenes from the film were shown to a group of middle school musicians who then created leit motivs based on the emotional context. The scenes and their corresponding motivs were then distributed to a group of composers from the USC School of Music. The composers were instructed to compose music based on those motivs that would also fit their assigned scene. 

This particular piece is the last scene of the movie in which Lucy discovers that Carton has sacrificed his life to save the life of Darnay, the man she loves, by switching places right before his execution. It is truly the Grand Finale. I chose to base my musical content on audible themes from every other pivotal scene from the film, thereby displaying and uniting the most important moments of every composer involved.

To my little girl in purple robes so bright,
To my little Queen so stately and regal tonight,
As Heaven is high above the stars,

I wrote this song when I was a teenager and never played it again. This is me bring some adult perspective to young piece.

I'm a composer from South Georgia. I'm currently living in Monticello, FL and working in the festival industry (mostly East Coast). I don't have a lot of recordings, but I try to share what I can. I mostly play for fun, and I'm eager to meet other professionals looking to kick back and sing around a campfire, beer in hand.
