Lisbon Syndrome is a series of EPs that rediscovers the rhythmic relationships between electronic music and the traditional music from Rebello’s homeland of Goa. Inspired by the emerging music scenes of Portugal, Brazil, South Africa and the UK, this fusion is an avenue of musical expression for reconnecting with his Indian-Portuguese culture, exploring the pain and confusion of trying to understand who you really are.

This is music that has been passed down from generation to generation - and in it’s journey, brought through influences of migrating through East Africa, and surviving in a post-industrial multicultural London, lost in a city which we helped to rebuild but are no longer wanted in.

There's an upspoken connection between Grime and Kuduro/Batida. I love playing the original in my DJ sets, and I wanted to chop it up into something within the 12/8 time signature. Listen back to them Kuduro beats from 2000's, you can pick out how producers in the UK and Angola were making music similar type of beats without even knowing it.

Our culture was lost within the intricacies of colonialism, nationalism and migration, but it was in the music that I was able to find the questions to my answers. It is in the music that some of us have been able to rediscover to who we really are.

Born and raised in a multi-cultural corner of London called Wembley, my roots lie in Goa, a former Portuguese colony in India, with both my parents having been born and raised in East Africa. This cultural fusion is now heavily part of my creative identity, which I try to bring together this along with what’s happening in the London rave culture.
