What a serious pleasure it is to welcome Aurora Halal and DJ G! Without doubt two of the classiest operators in the NYC dance scene, Aurora and Gareth are some of the people behind parties like Mutual Dreaming, Sustain-Release and Nowadays, and are two of our favourite DJs in the biz. 

Joining us for their first mix together since the height of the 2020 lockdowns, where their combined palates seemed to gel effortlessly across the downtempo and d'n'b spectrum for the wonderful Juanita's series, their follow up offering remains cosmic at its core, but with dance floors back in full swing we're hit with a high octane amalgamation of souped-up alien techno, mysterious atmospheres and wonky futuristic breaks, ever progressing with blends of the surgical variety. Actress' highlight reel needs little exposition. Darren J. Cunningham has been a prominent yet inscrutable figure in electronic music since the late 2000s, typically flickering to life from the margins before receding into the shadows. Beloved albums like R.I.P., Karma & Desire and Splazsh may switch up the template, but the Actress hallmarks of haze, murk and showstopping beauty remain.

As you'll see in the interview below, he's a man of few words—that's in character for him. What's characteristic, too, is a taste for surprises. Ahead of the release of tenth studio album Statik on esteemed Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound next month, here's the "Дарен Дж. JASSS (Silvia Jiménez Alvarez) is a Berlin-based DJ, producer, and sound artist from Asturias, Spain. A former resident at OHM and Berghain's Säule, her 2017 debut Weightless on iDEAL propelled her onto the global stage, with performances at Sónar, MUTEK, and beyond. She has held residencies at EMS Stockholm, Galeria Zé dos Bois, and Villa Massimo. In 2020, she released Turbo Olé / We Solve This Talking on Whities, further cementing her avant-garde approach.

Lou is the host of one of our favourite ambient shows @transience-archive which airs monthly on Berlin’s Cashmere Radio to provide listener with a much needed relief from anxiety and together with marum they host sonic-seances under the name @infinity-rug 🫧

Lou believes in the transformative potential of sound and the importance of deep listening. Whether that is listening to each other, our needs or to the sounds around us. In their sets they often explore the sonic landscapes of the in-between, where the listeners perspective dictates the experience, yet holds them in a warm embrace to invite a deep dialogue with the listening body-mind.

like many of us, my heart has been red with grief-rage witnessing the ever-escalating genocide in Gaza. this mix starts with an invocation for the liberation of the Palestinian people, a struggle that omits none of us if we wish to be truly free. 

the slowly evolving sound journey takes us through several realms and phases of introspection, ghosts of the past lingering in melodies they never heard. sonic energies condensing and expanding, offering spaciousness for contemplation and being with whatever arises.

meandering through earthly realms, through the riparian zone, swamps, and forests we meet with mournful spirits in her gut, casting our attention on the multiplicities of loss we are facing. yet in the shade there are angels, who remind us that we have been doing this for many, many lifetimes. ‘keep on’ they seem to whisper. 

eventually we arrive to the sunset inside, where the Grand River’s winds meet the horizon, guiding our gaze upward toward the night sky where the mysteries of the celestial bodies radiate, Lyra’s visions casting an empowerment spell for all those who listen. 

may we each grow ever surer of our paths, finding creative and yet unimaginable ways to continue our collective struggle for the liberation of all sentient entities, until we are all free.
