My former The Drop production partner, Daniel Cousins, and I were asked to submit a few production options for this Leighton Meester song in 2009. We did two versions with slightly different feels. The guy working with her loved what we did, but the project was scrapped, so this song was never released.

An Irish folk - acoustic rock duo founded by Lisa Timmons and Nick DeMatteo in 1999/2000, which ran until about 2003.  This is their only recording.

This is the first demo I recorded fully at home on my 4-track cassette recorder.  I was in college at the time.  It shows three totally different styles of music, LONG before I had a personal style that would mesh a lot of these elements.  This demo also has the first version of "Reflections".

This is a compilation of songs I recorded in the summer of 1986.  Pay no attention to the 1984 hidden track - that's coming later ;).

The first two were done in a mall in Florida (I wanna say Kissimmee, but it was probably Orlando).  Older folks may remember that malls used to have stores that existed solely to record karaoke versions of songs.  There'd actually be a professional sound booth there.  You'd go in, choose from their limited catalog, record a take or two, and come out with a cassingle (look it up).  For some reason I can't remember, I chose a Dire Straits song - I think because I knew it would be easy to sing.  The second song features Dr. David DeMatteo, my younger brother, and me doing high harmonies.  It's the DeMatteo Brothers doing the Everly Brothers.  My lovely and brilliant girlfriend pointed out that even that far back I was a mimic - she could tell the voice I was using for "Walk of Life" was intended to sound like Mark Knopfler.  I ain't sayin' it was great, but it was there.

The remaining five are my originals.  I'm fairly certain my dad was playing piano (and possibly singing backup) on a few of them.  Only one of them ("So Much More") would go on to be fully produced.  I am about 100% certain that the others were never produced or performed in public because I deemed them not "pop" or "cool" enough.  Or that I didn't think I could pull them off effectively based on my skills at the time.  

I spent way too much of my career being too harsh of a critic.  I constantly nudged my songs in directions I thought would give me a better chance at a career, instead of staying true to wherever I was.  THIS CASSETTE was the true songwriter at 17.  I'd get back there, better as a writer & performer, maybe ten years later as I started to silence my inner critic and let my freak flag fly.  It would take 20 more years before I'd emerge fully formed, no filter, and never look back.
