Having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, Bwana broke the silence with his ‘Flute Dreams’ EP back in December of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology. Now returning with his ‘Tengo’ EP, he continues on form, reaffirming the benefits of patience and proving that he’s an artist capable of touching many bases effectively.  


Continuing to widen the gulf between his original and current sound, the A side opens up with a pacy, Trance-minded thud that becomes coloured with thick, swooning melodies before ‘Drop Mechanism’ sets impassioned strings and sweeps over a thick, booming low-end.


‘Due-West’ then sets out a snapping, forthright groove that rounds up a rich and varied EP leaving us left wondering what else Bwana has tucked up his sleeve.

London producer @joeashworth has been on my radar for a while, with his ‘Zubr’ collaboration with Kiwi getting some heavy rotation round my way. I actually tried to sign it I think. It’s been great to see him progress, with a slew of EPs on Needwant and other releases on Anjunadeep, Holic Trax and Sneaky Music plus remixes for Shadow Child & Ben Pearce and Andre Crom in recent times. 

His sound continues to develop and branch off in different directions, and this moody new track from his ‘Braun’ EP – the first release on Glaswegian duo Mia Dora’s @poster-boy-records – is one of his most impressive to date. Taking its cues from the brooding progressive / techno sound of Life & Death et al, it dials things up to an intense energy with its shuffling rhythms, chubby arpeggiated bassline and snarling synths. It reminds me a little of early 2000s prog, in a very good way.

Reptile Dysfunction alumni Charlie Rope is back on the label with his second solo EP, 'Different Love EP': four propulsive house cuts with a healthy dollop of disco for good measure. 

Heavily influenced by the likes of Larry Levan, Giorgio Moroder, Frankie Knuckles and Giles Peterson, Charlie Rope's love of classic house music and disco is apparent in his productions, which are also driven by a desire to bring people together through music. 

His very first release was on Reptile Dysfunction back in 2017, confidently setting out his musical stall with life-affirming disco loops and chunky house grooves. With 'Different Love EP' Charlie further cements himself as a producer of tremendous ability. 

'Different Love EP' is one of the most positive, emotion-rich and fun releases you're likely to hear all year. Vocals whirl, basslines bounce and disco strings soar over the course of four utterly joyful tracks.
