Signature is Virilio’s first official release under their own label ‘’Record Label Record Label’’ and includes two tracks , pressed on a double-sided white matte high quality 12’’ vinyl that spins on 45 rpm. 
‘’Signature’’ has been recorded live in their home studio on the spring of 2013 and it was mastered by Martijn Comes. 
Corinna Triantafyllidis plays tympani, tamtam, synthesizer, drum machine & voice. 
Dimitris Papadatos plays electronics, guitar, turntables, synthesizer & voice. 

‘’Signature’’ has been previously released digitally through No Type’s digital sublabel Panospria with catalogue number PAN079.

Using purely acoustic means, Subroutine create an ethereal subterranean world often reminiscent of electronics. Surprisingly similar sounds are yielded from the two bass instruments, and during complex layering and mixing, the sound source is often indistinguishable.

A quasi-synthesizer built solely by their two instruments, executing ‘’tasks’’ that contain an oblique reference to computer music.

In Dual Processing, a track named after the computing component, the united timbres produced by the duo function as two independent units programmed for a single task: that of acoustically processing the sound of the other musician.

Data Dump simulates a variable atlas, in which sounds are continually being remodelled, referencing the past but subject to permanent change.

The tuba player and composer Robin Hayward, born in Brighton, England in 1969, has been based in Berlin since 1998. He has introduced revolutionary playing techniques to brass instruments, initially through the discovery of the ‘noise-valve’, and later through the development of the first fully microton- al tuba in 2009. In 2012 he invented the Hayward Tuning Vine, originally as a visualisation of the har- monic space implicit within the microtonal tuba. In 2005 he founded the ensemble Zinc & Copper Works to explore brass chamber music from an experimental music perspective.

Morten J. Olsen, from Stavanger, Northern Europe is a percussionist and music producer. He studied in Amsterdam and has been based in Berlin since 2006. He works with a sound palette that encompasses the history of orchestral percussion, electronic music and rock – a fountainhead of possibilities that he manages with pin-point critical perception and exceptional taste.

RLRLC001 Subroutine - Dual Processing (preview)

In The Metaphysical Animal, Papadatos presents a thick yet smooth layer of modular synthesizer pro- duced sounds, that reminisces a frozen crust, still and unmoved, while below it a rapid movement takes place. This oxymoron, signifies Papadatos’ sound where the use of plunderphonics and field recordings, running simultaneously, lead to a slow but concrete build up.
In Give Me Another Universe the approach is much more rhythmical and surprising as the use of turn- tables is extensively apparent. What starts as a cut-up of various sources, such as old opera recordings, Jack Holzman’s sound effects, old cool jazz records percussion amongst others, climaxes for seconds, only to be replaced by a captivating drone.
The voice of a muezzin drawn directly from a reel-to-reel tape, resonates with the drone produced by the modular synthesizer and leads the composition to a poignant end.
The title is inspired by Papadatos’ parallel work as a visual artist, art director and graphic designer and is in fact an intended tongue-in-cheek pun, towards all the jobs he finalized but never got payed for.
