"Menqui is a Berlin based dj & musician with a remarkably broad interest in music. Besides sharing his discoveries from behind the decks he has also been involved in a variety of different projects. Since 2019 he takes care of the the label called R-i-O along Nadia D'Alò and Benedikt Frey. The three also collaborate together as „Dolphins“. Rumors are that there might even be a connection to the infamous, yet mysterious 'Serious Trouble' releases. Additionally he hosts „Past Forward“ a monthly radio programme on cashmereradio together with his colleagues kryptic dj and hendrik stein."

Thank you for inviting me to be here today. 

These are difficult days and it is difficult to express the feelings that I have inside. 

We have seen the horrors of Israeli occupation. We have seen the hypocrisy of the European and American media. We have heard the silence of our peers. And we have felt the screams inside Al Aqsa, in Sheikh Jarrah, in Gaza, in Haifa, in Jaffa, in Lydda. But this is only news to those who don't know. 
In reality, this is nothing new. 

The past 2 weeks have been a microcosm for the past 20 years, the past 40 years years, the past 70 years. 

The Israeli government is a racist settler colonial project committed to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The legacies of systemic violence, racism and dispossession shaped by colonialism must stop. 

Today this means standing up and signaling clearly our support, our solidarity and our love for Palestine. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence and we cannot tolerate silence. 

As I speak something else is happening in another part of the world that is also very close to my heart. Chileans are right now electing  155 citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. It will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship. This constitution will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women. The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to tell truth to power, to tell the story of life in the face of death. 
The courage and determination of Chilean activists, writers, artists has been astounding. I am sure many of them are inspired and influenced by the courage of Palestinians living under occupation. 

These social movements are creating change, and the forces of Empire are having a difficult time trying to control this change. When we see Israel bombing the tower that houses AP and Al Jazeera in Gaza, we understand that this war is being waged on multiple fronts. Journalism is one of them. Art and music is also one. 

So thank you for this initiative Radio Alhara and Recordat. 

This mix is different from any mix I've ever played. 

I'm gonna play a mix I made for myself, never meant to be shared. It's the music I play to feel better, in some ways it's my own kind of therapy, it gives me hope that life can always shine in the dark."

Using site recordings predominantly from Palestine and the Arab world, Checkpoint 303 constructs soundscapes that weave cinematic audio with experimental sound processing and complex rhythms. Through its compositions, collected sounds and noise, Checkpoint 303 spreads a message of peace and a call for the respect of human rights. Contrasting with the mainstream media's exclusive depiction of violence and suffering in the middle-east, CP-303's sound collages also report on the heroic hope that subsists in the region as well as the seemingly banal but ever so meaningful little things that embody a daily search for normality in a state of emergency.

"I’m 28, half English, half Italian, born in Naples but grew up in London and currently living in Amsterdam. I grew up learning music from the recording studio my mother raised me in and moved to electronic music around age 16.
Recently over the years I have been trying to help my parents and my mother in UK was diagnosed with cancer and my father in Italy went through a long period of deep depression. This music is some of the stuff that I managed to output over these two years. I have been playing around with the idea of chaos and order or emotion and logic and how some people can relate more to one or the other in their way of thinking. I wanted to incorporate that on a little journey within the music, but if it comforts anyone then I’m more than happy."

Wissam Sader is a self-taught lebanese multidisciplinary artist investigating experimental music and improvised forms of sound art

In recent years, his work primarily focused on the complexity of contemporary urban environments and their rapidly changing soundscapes. Through electroacoustics and minimal compositions, he explores the aesthetic and social characteristics of acoustically disparate topographies.

His performances are based on improvisation using field recordings, synthesis and found sounds - as well as using quadraphonic sound systems which lead to exploring an immersive experience.

In this 1 hour and a half session you will listen to some selected Arabic music by Atlas and Youset where they were trying to beat match their music by playing sounds from Yemen and Algeria.
Atlas is a music collector based in Amman, Jordan. His collection of Arabic music is the biggest we have seen so far. Youset digs for music slowly until his ears catch a unique sound to be added to his collection.

This is the first @Recordat session in Palestine and the seventh recording session of a series of sessions organized for Djs and electronic musicians in the Arab region.

This is one our favorite sets at Recordat, and a recording we've been always trying to have.

Bashar for Recordat is one of the most talented artists in the region. He is so intimidating and provocative in his life and in his music, and that's why we look up for him. He started experimenting with sound since 2013. His music evolved from experimental noise to trip-hop and bass blended with lo-fi samples. His tracks are provocative and bring an air of intensity. He collaborated with several local and Arab musicians, vocalists and rappers.

This is the thirteen recording session of a series of sessions organized for Djs and electronic music producers from the east.

As a counter-balance to our increasingly dysfunctional reality and disingenuous information environment, listening to the intricate processes of the world may alter the way we live and introduce new directions and possibilities. 

Tuning out: A 1 hour Recordat listening session was aired on Radio alHara Wednesday, July 8, As part of a 75-hour program where more than 75 artists protested against the annexation of the Palestinian land by the Israeli occupation.
