Bucharest-based label Varme has been pushing the boundaries of sci-fi club music at a slow but steady pace since 2018. Strengthening the link with S. America already established through releases from Fede Lijtmaer and Cosmonaut, their new release sees Colombian producer Buraye stretch out across four tracks of futuristic electro-techno. ‘Frecuencia Beta’ is a dancefloor banger, mixing the wistful robot melodies of bleep with the rolling drive of the contemporary sound.

Following on from Tu Sei Pazza, Daniel Monaco returns to the Bordello with the bitter taste of the TB303 on his tongue. Acid Maria smoulders with the intensity of a Belgian new beat banger circa 1989. Smoky words whisper over rusted rhythms before the fog and strobe take hold. Cold strings haunt with snaking coils of 303 squawk growing ever bolder in this intense track. The flip is divided into two very different remixes. First up is Curses who approaches the piece in his own unique way. The fanfare and frigid lines of the original are expanded. Strings come care of guitars as a bright synth wave reimaging unfolds, a reimaging with one of the most daring breaks you are likely to ever hear. Younger Than Me close. This interpretation adds a fevered tone to the original. BPMs rise and pitches are pushed while chilly notes soon balloon into a frenzy to bring a full floor energy. Three tracks born to bring brimming basements into the beyond.

Vienna's Florian Stoffelbauer is the man behind the Heap alias. He uses it sporadically to drop cultured deep techno on labels like Mechatronica and Neubau and has done for around six years now. This new long player is the first we have heard from him in almost three years but it has been worth the wait. False Hope on Canadian label Isla is slow and snaking techno with icy atmospheres and a sleek sense of futurism. It's stylish in design and heady in mood with standouts like 'Inner Peace' drawing you into a world of intrigue and mystery. The title track brings lush cosmic melodies over gentle kick patterns and somehow soothes the mind, body and soul. Nice work indeed.
