Canadian soul queen Tanika Charles release the new single "Love Fool".

Produced by Slakah the Beatchild (BBE records), well-know for his work with the Hip Hop superstar Drake, "Love Fool" is Tanika Charles' new single and is taken from her heavily acclaimed debut album "Soul Run". The super soulful new single is built around a funky bass line in which Tanika showcases her impressive vocal skills and her boundless energy.

With two highly popular and praised EP’s under its belt, The House of Disco label looks to continue its healthy diet of invigorating collaborations into 2012 with its third release, On The Latch.

The bar was seemingly raised by the celebrated Shoes Off EP, delivering four stunning tracks that featured on all of the noteworthy playlists from last year, and with expectations understandably high, On The Latch has yet again brought together some of the finest artistic talent around.

First up is ‘Waves’ by Norwegian dynamo The Treatment. After the success of his On & On EP, as well as an overflowing vat of remixes, in 2011, The Treatment is back to form with this flawless rework of Surface’s ‘Falling in Love’, a surprising yet harmonious blend of Nu Disco, classic house chords and electro – a cerebral record that also highlights his instinctive side. We all love a piano riff too, of course.

Satin Jackets preserve their reputation for delivering infectious dance floor tracks with ‘How Long Can I Wait For Your Love’, producing echoes of Robin S’ ‘Show me Love’, which it undeniably has shown and much more. With heavy influence from the likes of Madonna, Roxy Music and Trevor Horn, the trio looks certain to be fiddling with a number of immortal tunes throughout the year.

Roberto Rodriguez has been synonymous with the house revival, and his music is always anticipated with an air of intrigue and excitement. ‘Mustat Vargot’ takes you on a welcomed Old School house journey, starting off with heavy synths and bass, leading nicely into ambient beats and sounds. The track passes all of the familiar sites and sounds, yet still offers the senses something new, transporting you to the musical equivalent of utopia.

And to complete the pack, Debonair continues his steady ascent to the Nu Disco summit with ‘Why?’ evidently living up to his nonchalant moniker with this stunning groove number. The rolling, soulful vocals add the substance, ensuring that Debonair maintains his laidback style. Certainly more than just a charmer…

The new soulful sound of Chicago.

Record Kicks pres. “Think I’m Falling in Love”, the new single by the Chicago Soul outfit The Devonns, which will be released digitally worldwide Friday the 14th of September. This is the second single from the band, which is now working in the studio with Brian Wilsons’ Paul Von Mertens (Mavis Staples, Paul McCartney) on their debut LP.

Following the success of the debut single “Come Back”, “Think I’m Falling in Love” is an uplifting soulful track heavily inspired by the sound of The Impressions and Leroy Hutson. Recorded at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago, the song relies on the band’s steady groove and it is enriched by the strings’ and the horns’ arrangements. According to the band-leader Mathew Ajjarapu, "The song actually came to me pretty quickly; I was driving to work one day and suddenly the entire guitar lead riff popped into my head, along with the bass line and chords. I instantly knew it was kind of special".

Started in 2016 by the singer and songwriter Mathew Ajjarapu who, after he dropped out of med school found himself drawn over and over to underground soul hits becoming hooked on the grooves and impeccable production and arranging values, The Devonns see the rhythm duty entrusted to Khalyle Hagood (bass) and Khori Wilson (drums), while Cam Cunningham is on the guitar.
