A&A continues its mixfile series with a delightful contribution by France-based musician Lucien Balconi. A 50-minute narrative-driven collection of music juxtaposing cumbia with skits and sound experiments, that function as a parenthesis to the dance sections.

Lucien Balconi is a musician based in the south of France. Inspired by the magnificent phenomena of nature, the morning wind that caresses our faces, the end of the day light filtered between the branches of the trees, he composes delicate, sensitive music, charged with emotions, where sometimes dissonant sounds inspire the ambiguity of sensations between fear and appeasement, melancholy and energy.

The 40th release of katharsis is the EP “Life is Hard” by Malle Voss coming out on April 10th. Following up on his debut release “Death is Easy” on Blue Tapes from 2022, the artist expands his musical pilgrimage into pure and spiritual affection in chaotic and dark territory. By using emotion in a structural way, the 6 tracks portray deep truths of overcoming struggle and turning nonsense into meaning. The tracks work like dark botanical angel artifacts, each with its rituals and prayers of death motivation and enlightenment through hardship. The range of sentiments covers everything from both beauty and joy to aggression and ecstasy, in its messy-by-design style of maximalist minimalism.

The 42nd release of katharsis is the collaborative album “Soft Space” by label founder jjjacob and various other artists from around the world, coming out on May 31st. The album works as a sequel to his previous full-length release "Brutal Nature" from 2022, both in terms of the collaborational dogma in production but also in the thematic connection and contrast between the brutality of nature and the softness of space. All tracks emerged as infantile jjjacob sketches, then taking more form and gaining inspirational matter from the collaborating artists' conduct and care, before finally being concluded by the final touches of jjjacob again.

The result is as the title suggests smooth and gentle at most times, but it does though have more wicked and harsh moments and aspects throughout the album. The emotional journey of the album keeps pendulating between the pleasant floating sensations of celestial emptiness and the brute mysticality of the unknown. At times it feels aerodynamic or dissolving, at others it tastes crispy and anthemic, but the overall output is definitely ethereal and cosmic.
