This mysterious producer’s music does pretty much what it says on the box… Edgier, harder Italo disco!

So we are presented here with an EP strongly influenced by the synthetic arpeggios, plastic cheesy melodies and disco beats of that infamous genre that filled up dance floors in the 80’s, emptied them in the 90’s and had some kind of revival on the tail of electro clash in the mid 00’s. 
Most probably a generational thing… kids exposed to these sounds in their early years all owned a mac computer with some music package by the time they were teenagers and unsurprisingly went back to the sound they heard while growing up.

But kids of that era also grew up with techno, and house, and maybe had a big brother who liked Donna Summer… And this is where it gets interesting.

Where original Italo Disco could feel quite cheesy and drowned in unnecessary sweet melodies and dodgy vocals, Italo Brutalo’s blend of 80’s disco and synth music is much more futuristic and tongue in cheek, thanks to an obvious techno heritage.

Italo Brutalo doesn’t only own a Mac computer, but also a pretty extensive collection of vintage synthesisers and his music is high energy and yes very synthetic, but it’s also filled with a real love of electronic music and its machines and a passion for the futuristic sounds it blasts out. The result is highly addictive and very powerful.

Opener “Velodrome” and second track “Oggi” are firmly anchored in that italo tradition, boasting a strong 80’s synthetic disco backbone and riding a seriously chunky beat, while the vintages synths weave and unravel a sparkly, psyched out web of melodic sequences and arpeggios.

Third track “Systeria”, while still owing a lot to 80’s synth music, has less of a linear groove and is a bouncier, more syncopated number recalling the more techno and club influences of Italo Brutalo… Leading perfectly to EP closer, Club Bizarre remix of that same track. 
The boys from Metz takes the track for a trip to the basement of a haunted house, where everything is darker, more enigmatic and slower, just like in a dream. Rave music for the living dead, Club Bizarre mix is oppressing and sweaty, like the best of their productions.

The long fabled ‘Elisabetta’ project, conceived by Giuseppe Alcheri, scored by Marco Segreti and eventually cancelled entirely by shady producers has long been lamented by fans of Italian Cinema and Disco aficionados alike. ‘Elisabetta’ was to be a return to Alcheri’s erotic thriller roots after (what some may consider talent wasted in) the Euro-Crime genre of the late 70s. Though, despite the predictable trappings of previous efforts, Alcheri’s flair for stylised dramatics and profound statements on the human condition bubbled under the surface, even in films such as “Legge Rotto” and “Sono Unica Difesa di Questa Città”, but it was the melancholic power of early hits such as “Angelo Della Pelle” or “Pianto Vergine” that serious fans were crying out for. All of which was to be delivered with ‘Elisabetta’ which promised to be his most ambitious and emotional film in years. Concerning a writer driven to suicide by a lost love, told mostly through typewriter monologues, conversations with “Little Grey”, a pigeon and late night cruises through the discotheques of the mid 1980s, ‘Elisabetta’ was to be an epic poem on the nature of love and fidelity, sadly lost much like the lover in the film. Marco Segreti’s credentials should need no introduction, originally the drummer and leader of “Bruciando Roma” a group of anarcho-session musicians, playing on many 70s disco hits, the synthesizer revolution of the 1980s allowed him to break out into independence. Dripping with vintage reverbs and mourning melodies, the soundtrack, presented here for the first time ever is all that remains of this remarkable project. Restored from the original tapes by Ruud Lekx. This essential, obscure masterpiece is not to be missed.

It’s with two kisses and a hearty handshake that Bordello A Parigi welcome stalwart of electronic music: Mr Pauli. Schooled on the West Coast, this pivotal figure has worked extensively with likeminded visionaries to create iconic tracks as the Novamen, Matzo & Pauli and Sumerian Fleet whilst producing his own unique works on labels like Moustache and Viewlexx. After such successes Pauli returns as a solo producer, delivering to the Bordello mansion two tracks of pure class. “At Night” is big, bright and brilliant. Hooks grip as soon as the needle lands. Vintage vocoder lyrics, a particular favourite of this trailblazer, tell a tale of twilight romance while crisp beats snap and notes sail. The flip keeps the fires burning. Synthlines are soaked in Mediterranean sunshine, an Italo Disco influence coming to the fore, with lovelorn vocals used to balance this cheer-filled creation. Golden sounds from a true pioneer.

Now, after 30 years since the original release, On And On (Fears Keep On) is been re-produced by the Italoconnection team in collaboration with Rago and Farina with the addition of female vocalist Vik. The result is a completely new refreshed version but still true to the moody and unique dark spirit of the original.
