Soulfoundation kickstart 2024 with Guess You Noticed, another slice of straight-up mayhem for the house-heads.

Sean “Hooky” Murray’s third EP for New Zealand’s up-and-coming Red Snapper label is another superb showcase for his peak-time sound.

It’s a brilliant reminder that less if usually more - with a handful of elements deployed expertly to create an absolute monster of a groove.

Loose-limbed, conga-driven drums dovetail with a swinging live-feel bassline to create a propulsive rhythm section. Old-school stabs enhance the momentum, creating the perfect canvas for key samples: dusty spoken word vocals and woozy jazzy trumpet licks that slide in and out.

The mix is super-crisp with the drums fizzing and skipping, ensuring a track with something of an old-school sensibility sounds bang up-to-date.

The virtual B-side features the Groundhog Remix, a stripped-back dub giving working DJs some options in the mix.
