Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. Her debut solo album, ‘Μάσκες Ηλίου’ (‘Sun Masks’) was produced in 1984 and reissued by Dark Entries in 2016. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the Roland TR 808 drum machine and Yamaha C60 synthesizer. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 1980s.

We’ve recruited four of our favorite contemporary producers to remix their favorite tracks from ‘Sun Masks’. First up is “Lego” remixed by triple scorpio supernova Avalon Emerson, who is based in Berlin. Her remix morphs the track into a solid dancefloor twister. Next is “Lego” remixed by Lena Willikens, Cologne based DJ and resident at Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. She provides a deep and psychedelic journey through the darker shadows of the early night or morning. On the B-side is New Yorker and Firehouse Recordings boss Kim Ann Foxman remixing “Hoping By Shopping”. She transforms the spacey robotic vocoder track into a dynamic deep house workout, tough and dreamy all at once. Closing out the EP is a remix of “Wrong Love” by Berlin via Bucharest producer Borusiade aka Miruna Boruzescu. Enhancing the original melancholic piano ballad to a cosmic processional with poignant bass lines that build and recess like the ocean tides. 

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is a reinterpretation of the original ‘Sun Masks’ cover, isolating the photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated film still from one of Lena’s music videos.

A mesmerizing trip from Krautland through Electronic Fields to Hypnotonia‒exploring the textures of haunting melodies, lucious dreamscapes and tribal, dancefloor-ready beats. After their highly acclaimed debut album “Im Klanggarten” (on Bigamo – label of Frank Wiedemann / Âme), this is Fred und Luna’s next fascinating step in their “Elektrokraut/Krautelektro” series.

Who are Fred und Luna?
"Fred und Luna" are two mannequins living in a fashion boutique in Karlsruhe, Germany. They serve as muse for musician, lector, poet and photo/video maker Rainer Buchmüller.
Inspired by his doll friends and his love for German electronic music of the past decades, Rainer Buchmüller under the alias “Fred und Luna” produces his self-created genres Elektrokraut and Krautelektro: both a modern combination of repetitive rhythms, beautiful melodies, electronic soundscapes and elements from the Krautrock era.
Under the name of “Ariston Baton” Rainer Buchmüller also writes and performs sound poems and concrete poetry. On live events and especially on exhibitions Ariston Baton is joining “Fred und Luna” and Rainer Buchmüller’s third identity “Vizudaru Nono”, who is contributing video and photo projections. Together they form the so called “Equipe Nadaphysique”. The next exhibition featuring all three named personalities will take place end of October 2018 at Rockomotives Festival, Vendôme/France.

A brief history of Fred und Luna
Having previously released the EP “Glück auf” on the Scottish label Optimo Music and being remixed by Prins Thomas for the Berlin label Innervisions, the year 2017 saw Fred und Luna feature their debut album “Im Klanggarten” on Frank Wiedemann’s (Âme, Howling) newly-founded label Bigamo Musik.

After the first editions of both the EP and LP being sold out quickly, live shows in Germany, France and England followed as well as remixes for Peter Pardeike (Connaisseur Recordings) and a common release with Trikk on Innervisions, among others.
A team-up with Achim Treu (UFO Hawaii) resulted in several remixes for international musicians.
