Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & brokenbeat. 

His career in Detroit began as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase "Bluecollar Gentleman". 
At the same time Deon started working alongside Theo Parrish & Sound Signature, 
helping organize and promote the Music Gallery party series. 

Spending years consuming & working in Detroit's underground would help inform his own more dancefloor/community oriented event, "Healin' Session" as well as the immersive music and art experience, "Black Music".

Recently, Deon was asked by the legendary Theo Parrish to help him selecting artists that he knows in order to be part of a great compilation, representing the originality and essence of the Detroit's sound.

On thiz show, Colin features Detroit's Theo Parrish fresh from thee airport with jet lag & still rockin' it like only he can. 
Also a nice interview with Theo. I like what Theo says about the beats on Techno slowed down & having more room for the frequencies to spread, giving that kick that nice punch. For those who know me well & ever heard my past live techno set's in clubs & radio shows... I agree with Theo 100 %!! I have been doing the same right from the beginning & when I make muzik.

Late in 2016, Brooklyn’s infamous and sadly departed Dope Jams record store released the first part of an open-ended compilation series capturing the sound of the shop. ‘Dope Jams NYC Vol. 1: 2005-2012’ is now available as a super-deluxe 3-LP set, featuring extensive liner notes and photos – but to mark the release of our RBMA Daily feature on Dope Jams and the shop’s second life in a tiny town in upstate New York, we’re streaming it in its entirety.
