Nico Sun is all about journeying. Since his debut «Caravan» came out on Arche in 2014, Nico traveled through many different aural and geographical landscapes. «Varak», his mighty return to Arche pictures this musical journey in a very extensive way - drone layers are floating on a dark ambient mood, evolving into sloppy rhythms. Guitar riffs are narrating stories from both past and future before transforming into a trippy, electronical body of sound, clearly implying that this caravan is not to be stopped anytime soon.

Remixes from Khidja and Rodion pick certain moods of the original, expanding its area of effect into an early/late morning rave with experimental components.

Never Saw Him Again (Julianna Barwick Remix)

Jeannel’s “Lullaby” has an embalming effect: Following a brief moment of disorder, soundtracked by sirens on the track’s opening seconds, the 2018 Academy alumna’s exceptional voice deftly soothes its listeners into submission. Her lyrics reflect this sense of easing and sheltering as well, and even though the R&B-inflected tune blossoms into something much bigger than it initially lets on, a gentle mood permeates its every facet.

MARANASATI 19111 is the debut full-length from @NinaKeith, a trans woman composer and multi-instrumentalist from Philadelphia. The album features textured piano arrangements laced with vocals, flute, electronics and found sounds. While rooted in contemporary classical music, the record ebbs and flows with a unique human quality, informed by its compelling narrative.

Set in the woods, hospitals, and churches of Northeast Philadelphia, MARANASATI 19111 delves deeply into the memory networks of childhood. Inspired by her experience in EMDR therapy, Nina Keith explores a personal history marked by community tragedy and paranormal incidents, and seeks to create a more equanimous, reverent relationship with death and the unknown.

Nina Keith - In The Woods We Both Saw It, Weren't Dreaming

This is a rework from the original Men I Trust song, Tailwhip. Producing this remix was both extremely fun and terrifying at the same time because I know Dragos, Emma, and Jessy personally and they are just so good at what they do… I wanted to honour their song in a humble way, while bringing a part of my universe into it. In the end, it’s more of a conversation than a remix.

Tailwhip is my favourite Men I Trust song, so I knew that there was a specific soothing vibe that had to stay intact within it. To me, that essence was kind of sacred. But when Dragos sent me the stems to make the remix, one of their tracks was labeled “New-Age” and I thought: "That’s a sign! It’s my direction. Let’s try to bring this song into the clouds a bit”.

The end result is bouncy, vaporous and a bit mystical.

I remembered Dragos telling me how fun it was to make a music video with their childhood footage. So I thought, maybe I could create some kind of dialogue with him by reproducing their video concept with my remix.

Dragos grew up in Chaudière-Appalaches, a region of Quebec, just like Jessy and myself. The name of the region is written on Emma’s t-shirt in the original video, so I knew I had to include that in mine.I also added footage of my childhood when I visited my family in Hungary in response to Drago’s Eastern European origin.

My remix is a tribute to Men I Trust and a memoir to myself.
