A. Rail Band - Mariba Yassah ft. Mory Kanté

One of Mali’s best known outfits, also known as Super Rail Band and the Bamako Rail Band. Led by the legendary Salif Keita. Their unique style came about as a result of the fusion of Afro-Latin-Jazz and traditional styles.

This track is super funky and tight from the first beat, with a catchy trumpet line running over the top and throughout. Mory Kanté features here on lead vocals.

Originally released on their album entitled ‘Super Rail Band Of The Buffet Hotel Del La Gare De Bamako, Mali - Rail Band’, in 1973 on RCAM. 

B. Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako - Get Up James

Salif Keita becomes the subject of some unusual A-side/B-side drama here - he left Rail Band to join Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako! Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako are considered to be one of Africa’s greatest bands, assembled in the early 70’s in Mali.

This record is a James Brown cover with a psychedelic-West African twist. Loud and proud JB style call-and-response vocals, driving organ, drums and guitar.

Dub Head makes his return to Dispatch LTD with a debut EP this February; a four track release entitled ‘Bad Signal EP’. 

Joining us last year with a single featuring ‘Spaceship’ and later contributing ‘Black Hole’ to our Dispatch #100 compilation, the Ukrainian has quickly cast his own distinction within the label, gaining solid support from Noisia, DLR and Skeptical. 

Impressing us from the start, with his innate understanding of the groove within drum & bass, the new EP builds upon this, with all the elements geared towards expressing exactly that; from the crispness in the drums, to his routinely smooth, pumping low ends. 

Whether it’s a more chilled out affair, like the delicate chords of ‘Cepheid’, or a darker tip, like title track ‘Bad Signal’, there is always a distinct swing leading the track, an unmistakable groove that Dub Head has a natural ability to create. 

Adding a touch of quality of his productions, with a unique simplicity, Dub Head continues to keep us enthused.

Analog Africa return with another batch of wildly original Vodoun-inspired funky bliss from Benin. The West African country was busting out domestic pressings of heavy dancefloor shakers through the 60s and 70s and African Scream Contest 2 collects some of the most explosive of this wave. Label head Samy Ben Redjeb went straight to the source for these cuts, tracking down artists with the help of a former KGB agent who also happened to be in one of the hottest Afrobeat bands of the time. Luckily this sleuthing was focused on a positive goal, helping to revive this bubbly bouncer from Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou and thirteen other stellar songs. Forthcoming from L'Eclair, "Carousel", a modern funk instrumental blending minimal synth sequences with an unconventional post-punk groove, climaxing to maximum dancefloor impact.

"Carousel" is the latest single to be lifted from their fantastic "нощта" ("Noshtta") EP, set for release 22nd May on the ever on-point Les Disques Bongo Joe, capping a busy few months for the group. Recently the band opened up for The Cinematic Orchestra at the Brixton Academy, released a collaborative 7"single with fellow tropicalfuturists The Mauskovic Dance Band and performed a live session for KEXP while at Les Transmusicales Festival. 

Since their debut LP "Cruise Control" in 2017, the band has been shaping its own vision of instrumental music, drawing inspiration from the past and the future and fearlessly blending genres. Their 2018 sophomore album “Polymood” was a hi-fi-but-crunchy studio adventure with the well-known record engineer/wizard Jasper Geluk (Altin Gün, Mauskovic Dance Band) while "Sauropoda", released in 2019 on Bongo Joe, was more of a DIY attempt to recreate the band’s live percussion-heavy organic house jams.
