This is my first attempt at a Liquid Drum and Bass track. It was for an assignment at university for the Creative Practice Module. I have taken heavy influence from Hospitality and the track 'Changing Faces ft. Charli Brix - Everything Is Gone (Basik Remix'. 
For my creative practice piece I chose to compose and produce a liquid drum and bass track because I had never attempted one before and saw it as a great opportunity to do so. I have listened to the genre a lot over the years and admire the amount of work that goes into the production of it.
Before I started to produce anything I first researched and listened to as many mixes and songs from the genre as possible. At first I wanted to go down the roots of Sub Focus and ShockOne but the more I delved into the genre the more I preferred the earlier more ambient work of Netsky. I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of a fast tempo to slow chord changes and melody lines so with that in mind I attempted to first create an atmospheric piece without any drums to try and get a feel for the fast tempo.
I often struggled to find chord lines that would work well together and produce the ambience I wanted to create. I stopped trying for a while and instead focused on what other artists were producing to try and feed off their ideas. A song that stood out most for me was, ‘Changing Faces ft. Charli Brix - Everything Is Gone (Basik Remix).
After finally building a successful string of chords I progressed onto finding synths to build a
bigger a sense of space which proved the easiest part of my track. Layering and producing
the drums was the most time consuming because of how hard I found it balancing them in
the mix with the high frequency content. The melody line was fairly simple because I used
the stem notes of the chords and built around them to try and create some sort of hook
line.
￼Overall, the assignment was at times very tedious but also very enjoyable. It opened my
￼eyes to a whole new way of producing music which I will take forward into new projects.
