I gotta be honest, I’m getting frustrated with MCs who come out and promise
to always lyrically astonish
Then based on their LP having lower sales than expected
They compromise their skill level their next record
I know that most can’t understand this
but the way that I stay focused, I remain a fan of this
And on the low, developed more flow than Prince Namor
to slay more men than Attuma in Atlantis
And, I know the chances of acquiring all the finances 
to fulfill ALL my dreams OFTEN seems to be just that (a dream)
So, I adjust that by balancing writing rhymes while working full time
And in my spare (time) further design the blueprints to a business whose existence is congruent
with supporting those pursuing what I spent the last 21 years of my life doing
And, that’s being AMC, a DJ, producer, and a B-boy, then act as an outsider
look out for the human beat box and the graf writer
My main point, MCIng is an artform
that is important where you start from
You gotta be a fan first, fantasize on writing your first verse
And when that thought’s finally born, perform it for your friends
If they recommend you pursue that, then do that
Accumulate confidence and start bombing s**t in public places
Until you’re leaving ciphers and stages getting compliments and staring at startled faces
My next suggestion is your true test for your new quest of artistic expression
Best achieved by stepping those best believed to be the nicest in your section 
for verbal slugfest because putting heads to rest builds a street buzz best
Then MCs and producers will be eager to work wit cha
That’s when studio time finally comes into the mixture
BUT, don’t switch your style to get richer
 Just... broaden your conceptual picture
And convince the crowd to get wit cha
Cause the industry’s designed to make you think the way they think
Desert you when you sink and leave you on the brink…
Of psychological breakdowns, so...I’ve...found
That it’s best to trust my instincts
And, place my faith in under connections
Cause I’ve seen proof of their roots at spots such as Lower Links

The Twilight Zone (PT 1): (5-18)

From a small suburban town, nothing out of the norm
But sometimes, things change, like the night of storm
House on the hill, the Richardson’s have done quite well
Made a fortune on the stock market, buy it then sell

Some can see between the lines, that’s the story of Steve
High School football star, but he injured his knee
Effectively changing what his future could be

Then one night, local diner, when his thoughts are extreme
He’s thinking, it’s his last meal, he’s given up on the dream.
Distracted from his thoughts, ‘would you like coffee and cream?’
He knows that voice, he looks up, it’s his class prom queen
Voted mostly to succeed and to win
But here she is, looking unhappy as him

Fast-forward ten years and the present is bright
Resulting from one decision on that fateful night
He never ordered that meal, instead he chose to ask
Kate about her life, and what events had passed
She poured her heart, he sat there, his soul was a sponge
And they decided right then what had to be done
She pulled the string on her apron and it fell to the floor
He stood up, they clasped hands, then they head for the door.
Got in her in car and drove until they ran out of road
Found themselves in California, whole new zip code
Fresh new start, Kate chose to follow her heart
Became a well known painter, gave her life to the arts
And Steve, finally accepted time for brains over brawn
And in matter of time, to the stocks his was drawn
And here’s one important factor I forgot to reveal
On that night they left together, man, the passion was real


Nine months later, here’s Billy, he’s their pride and joy
At ten years old, most agree, he’s a brilliant boy
But barely has any friends, it’s too hard to relate
Billy’s smarter than his teachers, causing hate from his classmates
But WAIT, a new family moves in town
Similar to Kate and Steve, trying to turn their life around
Kate met Jane, life explained, decisions was made
She could be their housekeeper, that would help them get paid
And Jane had a daughter, who just turned fifteen
Who suffered from depression, cause she felt unseen
So despite the age difference, once the two did meet
Billy and Ann formed a friendship, the kind that’s deep
They don’t have much common, ‘cept they both feel alone
So they sit and talk for hours, trying to keep both strong
They usually hang in his garage, that’s his place to escape,
He loves science, he’s a builder, yeah, he loves to create
He has everything he needs, thanks to dad and mom
But what they both don’t know is Billy’s building a bomb

When I first started rhyming I was following trends
Listening to Sugar Hill and Enjoy with my friends
And my dad would get tapes from some people at work
And he was in the military, which was really a perk
See, people moved in from the east coast shores
And brought records, tapes, they would let me record
 I would study every rhyme, plus learn every word
Then it wasn’t too long, the next chapter occurred
I was writing down my own rhymes, rocking in the lunchroom
Started with a few but then I had bunch soon
I had the Sharp GF-575
Plug the mic chord in and freestyle live
My first group was the Devastating 2 
Then a few years later came the 3D crew
I feel things are getting serious, I’m building my skill
The love is real,  think it’s time to search for a record deal

And the 3D crew had a perfect plan
Graduate high school, then it’s time to expand
Gonna learn about the biz, take it back to the root
At MBI, the Music Business Institute
BUT, ya know how it goes, most plans’ll a fail
Bet a lot of rappers got that story to tell
But all is well, Wildstyle came on scene
Mad Maxx and LA, what a powerful team
A crew with a dream, battle instigators supreme

Last of the Record Buyers

I got my first record March ’74
Carl Douglas 7” left me hungry for more
Fast-forward Christmas Day, that same year
Fisher Price record player got a hold of my ears
It wasn’t just music, there was GI Joe
Flat Stanley, Curious Jorge, Frog and Toad
Flash Gordon, Star Trek, all a part of the stash
Along with Oscar the Grouch singing ‘I Love Trash’
Spooky Stories, something for late in the night
And Power Records brought comic books to life
And THEN, here come the 80s and Sugarhill
…The 12” record was a brand new thrill
Living on an army base in a foreign place
So when I couldn’t find vinyl, I was trading tapes
Then I moved to Stuttgart, near Breuningerland
Nearby music store had some records on hand
Teldec compilations were part of the quest
Or get Enjoy Records on the CBS press
A new spot opened, all vinyl racks
And that’s the place where I got my Wild Style soundtracks
A short time later, moved back to the states
Off to Fort Riley, KS with a couple crates
 
Downtown Junction City, conduct my search
And I came across placed called the Middle Earth
Mostly a Rock store, didn’t care for Rap
But they got lots of vinyl, so I kept going back
And then two years later, it’s the same old score
New city, new school, new record stores
We had Strawberry Fields, and T&S
I would spend so much money I would feel so stressed
Then I drop the needle and I hope for the best
And get a whole new mood when the song was fresh
That’s the life of a crate digger and their suppliers
