Campfire is the first single release from Dan Whitehouse's album The Glass Age 

The Glass Age - a Dan Whitehouse collaboration with Swedish producer Gustaf Ljunggren, which looks at how our human experience and ways of connecting have changed through the ‘glass’ of virtual communication. Recorded between Tokyo and Yokohama in 2020/2021

The Glass Age - Dan's sixth album - was co-written over the internet with Swedish composer/producer Gustaf Ljunggren. Master of the understated and subtle, Dan Whitehouse uses his exceptional story-telling to look at how our human experience and ways of connecting have changed through the 'glass', the screens, of virtual meetings and communication. 
 
The new songs and approach show how he carefully nurtured and evolved his creativity during an imposed stay in Japan from January 2020 to June 2021. But the songs are not lockdown songs - these screens have been part of our lives for many years, and will continue to do so. 
 
"The way we feel about one another doesn't change, but the way we communicate is sometimes forced to. As humans we strive naturally to find new ways of communicating and surviving" says Dan. 
 
The album also marks a sonic departure for Dan: whilst originally written on acoustic guitar, all instrumental parts on the album (apart from on the final track) were played & programmed by Gustaf on the Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesiser.

“This is where I’m likening the sunrises over Tokyo Bay, to the campfires burning back home in the UK.  

During my time in Japan, I ran something called The Rising Sun Stream Series - it would be 5am in Yokohama, and evening back in the UK where some of my followers would gather to hear my songs.  These sessions really connected us during lockdown - it felt like we were gathering around the same sun, albeit in different forms.”
