Timeline Freakadelica

I have finally finished my work for DSO Berlin's Remix Contest 2015-16 based on the fourth and last movement of Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). It was an interesting experience which appeared to be more difficult than expected. Bruckner is a strong composer whose influence over the track has become quite distinct in the end of the track. Firstly I wanted to add some external samples into the track, but this idea quickly proved to be wrong. I used DSO samples (01 Strings, 02 Horn & Clarinet, 04 Violin, 06 Violin & Viola, 08 Reeds, 09 Brass, 10 Clarinet, 12 Reeds, 16 Timpani (roll)), my voice recorder samples, guitar records, drum samples, and a couple of VSTi's. DSO samples were difficult for me to rework, meaning I did not have the heart to modify, modulate, or glitch them. Mainly, I reversed, split, and slow them down. In general discordance of the sounds, they alone remained stable and unchanged, which could be explained by Bruckner’s impact. The style of the track is close to Lo-Fi, breakbeat, noise, and some heavy-metal in the end.  

The topic of the contest is Romantic Revolution, and you cannot speak about romanticism and revolution without recalling this guy.  I think that if such a revolution happens, it will take place within our unconscious which has not been invaded yet by world corporations and power players. To my mind, one of the greatest explorers of romantic revolution can be considered Novalis, and he keeps company with Bruckner in my track. While working on it, it was interesting to experience and discover the state in which the composer was writing his 4th symphony. This place lacks constant form, but we still can see familiar shapes and lines. It reminds a forest or a cave: something is constantly buzzing and rustling and it is difficult to catch, because it is hidden from us. We never think of how we should breathe or how the blood I supposed to transmit the oxygen into the heart, because our mind does not dominate over these processes. I wanted to create an acoustic picture which allowed us to weaken the hold of mind and set the suppressed feelings free.        

For a long time, the puzzle would not assemble, but when the picture was complete, I had a feeling of liberation. It is as if burst energy which lets new feelings and new thoughts happen. The world became harmonious and full of sense. By opening these processes, we discover the road for new transformations in our inner world and find hidden senses in order to understand what the world means and who we really are.
