It's been days since it happened, but in your mind you're still stuck in that fateful moment when your world came crashing down around you, when you finally understood just how alone you were. You're safe for now, but you don't know how long it'll last. 

You're not sure what you have to do now, but you know you have to do something.

The Lesser Evil (theme Version Demo)

Hey, so this track is pretty special. 
As you might already know, I'm using a new DAW package now, because Samplitude, for all of its years of outstanding service, decided to kick the bucket in February, if I remember correctly. 
This is a reimagining of the last track I was working on before it exploded in my face. Never got to finish it. 



Fight Or Flight 2015

Re-uploaded for finished track. 
I was given a request, long long in ancient history. 
"Here, Red, this should be a cinch for you."
"What is it?"
"Oh, it's a track from a video game. YOu'll like it."
Ten minutes later:
"Keira... I... I have no idea what to do with this."
"Great!"
"No, Kei, no. That's not great."

Enter thought process:
-What on earth am I going to go with a slow, dramatic interlude during a cutscene from... Final Fantasy 9? I've never even played the game. 
-I don't know what feeling it's supposed to have, I don't know *anything* about it. 
-I know! I'll... Uh... Make it fast. And energetic! Yeah... WHen the hell do I do anything else...?
-Well... I'll start on it. 


A month later, and I'd done nothing other than transcribing some of the melody line into the sequencer. 
Three months later, I'd totally forgotten about it. 
Tried to pick it up again, several times, but... Well, no luck. 

Then, some time around September or October, I think, I became quite thoroughly obsessed with motorcycles. Yes, 100% out of left-field. 
A few short rides around town, with my brother and father; my father on his new Harley-Davidson Superglide somethingorother and my brother on the BUell he got right before the company went belly-up. And me, on a positively ancient Yamaha dual-sport, an old 1975 DT250. 

Well, the sensation of speed and exposure really did a number on me. Going 80 on that thing felt like going 180 in a 3,000lb car.
It bit me so hard, I had to make music about it. 

And then the lightbulb came. 
So after brutalizing two birds with the same stone, you have a finished piece of drum and bass.

You Are Not Alone (drum & bass remix 2011)

Fear. You are so full of fear. Your lips are numb. Fingertips too. You taste stomach acid in your mouth and your knees don't quite want to hold you up. 
But you remember something you learned a long time ago, about fear and about bravery. 
It's got nothing to do with being fearless, after all, and everything to do with being scared to death, but choosing to carry on and finish the job anyway.

This one is a long time coming. Each time something would break, I'd replace it with something better. Using this work to teach myself to build vastly different-feeling pieces of music around a core set of motifs in the style of the Star Wars or Mass Effect soundtracks.

Drum & bass/trance producer from Illinois. I'm tailoring my style to represent the aesthetic of the new cyberpunk renaissance happening not just in our media, but our world. Developing the sound for use in BGM/score applications, as well as just for listening.
