Peplo is a Glasgow based four-piece that cuts classic pop songcraft with an alternative edge; the band begin '22 with the release of their new single 'Goodnight Maria' on January 28th, and will be performing on the UK's summer festival circuit – with a slot at ButeFest already confirmed.

'Goodnight Maria' is the band’s fourth single. The eponymous Maria is a typical millennial heroine – a displaced and exploited twentysomething, who relies on pretension and pride to remain wilfully oblivious to being the poster girl for a lost generation. The song takes this to be both endearing and pitiable, lending 'Goodnight Maria' an acerbic tone that’s new to Peplo’s palate (this more rock-adjacent track comes hot on the heels of dream-pop jangler, ‘Katarina’s Got My Tongue’, as well as the balladesque ‘Tall’ and ‘Just to Get to You’).

Highlights from Peplo’s career to date include performing at Last Night From Glasgow’s label showcase at Celtic Connections; being shortlisted for Fresh On The Net’s Listening Post (where the band’s second single, ‘Katarina’s Got My Tongue’, was championed by Tom Robinson - who subsequently played the track on his BBC Radio 6 Music show, ‘BBC Introducing Mixtape’); and playing the forthcoming ButeFest - sharing a bill with Scouting for Girls and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

The end is the beginning. If singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tamar Berk’s 2020 solo debut, "The Restless Dreams of Youth" was about -- in her own words -- “looking back at who I was and where I was then, and that I was OK with not knowing where I was going or what I was doing,” then her autobiographical sophomore effort, "Start at the End" is the logical sequel. Written and recorded after the death of her father last June, the album’s themes include rebirth, reinvention, self-discovery and coming to terms with life’s absurdities, both channeling and moving on from her grief.
“When my dad died, I realized I didn’t understand the purpose of anything,” says Tamar about turning to music to express and work through her existential crisis. 
That required her to Start at the End... with one door closing, others opened, and the cycle of life renewed on an album of introspection, but also action taken, moving forward tentatively, the journey chronicled step by step like a book of short stories, with her characteristic blend of ‘60s psychedelia, ‘70s punk and ‘80s power pop, leavened with strains of folk and country. - Roy Trakin

I'm All Sugar

With her brand new track Heavy Lifting, rising singer-songwriter Roxanne de Bastion delivers a beautiful moment of catharsis as 2020 draws to a close. A requiem for a difficult year, the Bernard Butler produced track is a timely piece of ethereal pop that showcases the purity of Roxanne’s voice and her keen lyrical perspective. 

Heavy Lifting is set for release on November 25th via AWAL.  
About Heavy Lifting, Roxanne says: “We live in a world where we tend to keep all our hurt, fears and anxieties to ourselves. We share the peaks and not the troughs. Heavy Lifting is about the quiet, dark moments we usually battle with on our own. Writing this song has definitely helped me with my hardships - I hope it can provide comfort for others too”  

The release comes at the end of a trail-blazing year for Roxanne that saw her embark on a virtual UK tour, the first of its kind, during the early stages of lockdown. Performing on social media accounts of various independent venues around the country, the tour came in support of her critically acclaimed single ERASE, also produced by the legendary guitarist Bernard Butler. The tour received features in The Metro and Huffington Post, as well as a mention on BBC News. ERASE was played on BBC 6 Music, Absolute Radio, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Wales (Janice Long), BBC Radio London and was track of the day in Clash Magazine. Roxanne was artist of the month on BBC Introducing Coventry & Warwickshire in July.  In September, Roxanne played a special one-off livestream show from Hackney’s Moth Club, broadcast as a pay-per-view to fans around the world. Heavy Lifting

Formed in 2018 and hailing from Cardiff, Red Telephone’s richly layered alt-rock could have emanated from a club in Blade Runner's dystopian LA - combining angular guitars, Krautrock-inspired rhythms and New Wave-tinged synths with infectious pop sensibilities. 

Drawing on post punk, synth pop and industrial rock influences the band has been catching the attention of DJs across BBC 6 Music, BBC R1, Amazing Radio and Radio X; with comparisons to the likes of MGMT, Mitski and Berlin-era Bowie being drawn. 

With previous single releases on Welsh-based labels Libertino Records and the Popty-Ping Recording Company, the band released their debut album, 'Hollowing Out', on 31st March 2023.
