as an engineer working for NASA on the Voyager program, he hears a broadcast coming back from Voyager that nobody on earth had installed on it but he has a rough idea of where it is outside our solar system but closer to the center of the Milky Way

he builds his own spaceship using cutting edge propulsion techniques and a tiny weight and payload specs, in his garage, and launches himself into space to find something better

he gets lost, has engine troubles, almost gets destroyed by an asteroid and uses up too much fuel escaping the gravitational pull of a closer than expected supermassive blackhole

he eventually locates a planet with an atmosphere, water, flora and fauna like he’d hope to find, and decides to live there forever even if this is not the place he originally set out for

Space Debris

A man sees that mankind has ruined life on earth through war, famines, climate change & nuclear fallout. 

As an engineer working for NASA on the Voyager program, he hears a broadcast coming back from Voyager that nobody on earth had installed on it, but he has a rough idea of where it is outside our solar system, closer to the center of the Milky Way.

He builds his own spaceship using cutting edge propulsion techniques with low weight and small payload specs, in his garage, and launches himself into space to find something better.

He gets lost, has engine troubles, almost gets destroyed by an asteroid, and uses up too much fuel escaping the gravitational pull of a closer than expected supermassive blackhole. 

He eventually locates a planet with an atmosphere, water, flora and fauna like he’d hope to find, and decides to live there forever even if this is not the place he originally set out for.

He almost dies when space debris falling out of orbit into the planet’s atmosphere nearly kills him, but he survives, finds psychoactive plants and vanishes into his unconscious.

He awakens in the court of the sender of the Voyager signal!

Basically I was reading this post from Vintage King Audio about the origins of techno, and how No UFOs by Model 500 (Juan Atkins) and Strings of Life by Derrick May are often cited as the original 2 techno tracks for the out of Detroit origin story of techno. Listening to Strings of Life now after all these years still vibed nicely, and I thought to myself like last night at 1AM, I could do that, like now, so I did. I pulled up a piano preset in Ableton and figured out the piano part, and the rest happened in the next 20 minutes. I ended up creating an arrangement, with my Eurorack modular synth and Ableton Live 9, that mimic'd my journey of creating it, roughly in the order I did a part. Once all the parts are introduced the arrangement is pretty arbitrary just trying to make it make sense musically. You can listen to the original on the Vintage King link above. 


For my remake, I built it up in layers like I was writing the track and arranging at the same time. It was a fun experiment.
