Story
Australian Aboriginal Myths... The Song of the Fire Lizard
Long, long ago in the Dreamtime, when the world was still young and the skies sang with the voice of stars, the Fire Lizard awoke beneath the red desert sands. His body was as long as a winding river, and his scales shimmered with the colors of dawn.

The Fire Lizard didn't walk... he sang. Every note that escaped his throat became a road, a mountain, a tree, or a cloud. Thus were born the songlines, the lines of song that crisscross the continent like veins of memory. Where he sang "water," a spring gushed forth. Where he sang "shelter," a sacred cave rose.

But the Lizard didn't sing alone. He was followed by the Ancestors: the Emu-Man, the Rainbow-Serpent-Woman, the Dingo-Child. Each added their verse, their rhythm, their story. Together they wove the spiritual map of the world, not with ink or stone, but with melody.

One day, the Fire Lizard stopped on a plain where the wind spoke in ancient tongues. There he buried his heart in a black rock that still beats beneath the earth. The elders say that if you listen closely, you can hear his song traveling through the roots of the trees and the flight of the parrots.
