Almost there...

I know where I'm going, but I'm not sure how to get there.

I think I will probably have to resort to arranging in layers like this, making sure everything's lined up and pitched to where it needs to be, then go back over individual tracks to make sure all the chop cuts are "invisible", then render each of those stems as separate tracks and send it to somebody who 1. knows what they're doing, and 2. isn't having to work through television speakers.

Also - for you guys who know the guitar parts in all of the original songs, I am OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS if there are any particular phrases or sections that you think would work in this, let me know the track and timestamp and I'll see if I can find it.

This is just a quick mash-up I threw together in a half hour or so--not nearly the level of quality as the Identity Crisis tracks, but in relation, I would call this a 'sketch'.  Unfortunately, there are no stems for Papercut, just an official instrumental, so I don't see this mash-up going any further than this.  I would've loved to expand on this and include it into Identity Crisis

This won an LPA MMU contest last year--but I took the track down after a while.  I'm reuploading now, havng realized the LPA links to winning remixes, so that people can hear it if they stumble across the thread at LPA.  The theme of the remix contest was to mash a Linkin Park song with something from the 90s.

This is one of the Linkin Park mash-ups I've been working on (in spurts) for almost twelve years.  The reason that I haven't actually finished it is because there simply aren't enough available resources to do the full concept justice.  Then Linkin Park comes out in 2024, now with Emily Armstrong on vocals, and Collin Brittain on drums, while their guitarist Brad is still in the band, but isn't going to tour.  (I don't know if he's got kids to spend time with, if he just feels old, or if he's laying low in lieu of antisemitism, but it's nobody's business, as long as the guy's healthy.)  

So this is absolutely a work-in progress, you can hear that there are duplicate tracks (because the original mash-up is being used as a template in my project file) and the mixing isn't the best.  Like I said, I'm on arrangement mode, I'm more concerned with how the notes and rhythms line up.  

Then I grabbed an (unofficial, filtered) acapella of Linkin Park's new track, "The Emptiness Machine," with vocals by Emily Armstrong, and laid them over this beat that I built from Breaking the Habit, Given Up, Points of Authority, Wretches and Kings, It's Goin' Down, With You, and Castle of Glass.  

She fits.  It still sounds like Linkin Park.  
I don't know about you, but that's good enough for me -

Oscillation Of Balance

This is the instrumental track for the mash-up with the same name.  Sometimes the vocal might bury some of the more interesting things about a mash-up such as this.

These mash-ups are not as simple as taking Instrumental A and fitting Vocal B to it.  It's actually a lot of beatmatching separate stems and finding where their individual phrases line up.  Then to make sure they're in the same key (which actually is some hardcore nerdy music theory shit.  For example, A Place For My Head is in Eb Phrygian mode, while No More Sorrow is in Eb Harmonic Minor.  

Yeah.

Also, the song switches from 4/4 to 12/8 at the climax, but the quarter note pulse stays the same.  I kept this mix at 133, which seemed like a good average of BPMs involved.  128, 135, 133, 135, 140.  I erred slower because that 128 is the main vocal from Darker Than Blood.  With vocals, you want to try and move it in time / key as little as possible from its original key.

I know some of it clashes a bit, but I was throwing eveverything here into one project file and my computer had started to lag a bit to the point where ai just rendered what I did have to see what needed to be fixed, and that's what you are listening to now.  :-)
