Luke Slater’s most well known pseudonym Planetary Assault Systems is back in the fullest swing with 'No Exit', a standalone EP following his famed 'Deep Heet' installment series. 'No Exit' unmistakably bears all the hallmarks of Planetary Assault System, from mind-tripping and floor-stirring hypnotic energy to the theme of pushing the outer limits of unknown territories.
The EP kicks off with the title track, at its first breath of rolling beat already infusing an ample dose of psychedelic madness, which only to be intensified with the layers of digital chime tones that are constantly multiplying and shape-shifting. “Undertow” on the B side continues with the signature warping and reverberating bells and bleeps but this time with enticing hi-hats and distorted bass, gradually all melting into one big sinister groove. The last track of the EP “Nanendi” might fool you in the beginning with its minimalistic beat, but as soon as the demure yet ominous veil of melody - beautifully moody and almost spooky at times - starts humming and howling, it’s well on its way to make a deep, haunting emotional connection while keeps the tension boiling. Without a doubt 'No Exit' EP is the one that shows the most distinctive core DNA of Planetary Assault Systems and much like his seminal album The Messenger, it’s a deadly unique, dazzling, and powerfully effective work that will stand the test of time.

Planetary Assault Systems - No Exit - Mote Evolver

Longtime Berghain resident, Figure Music founder and Berlin techno stalwart Len Faki is known both for his discerning, impeccable taste, so when we heard that he had agreed to remix French artist DNGLS for the enigmatic Anemone Music label, we were understandably enthused.

What Len ended up turning in, however, was much more than simply a remix, but, as the label calls it a “whole new realm of possibilities” – three different versions of DNGLS‘ “Hooly” – and we’ve got an exclusive listen below.

“When I heard the track first time, I instantly loved this special melody a lot,” Len tells us. “It was a pleasure to work on it, also because it is a little different than my other productions and a great experience to work in this direction. In the end, this is how the three different versions were formed, mirroring three different club moments. The first one is more like an energetic moment on the floor, while the ‘Tool’ is clubbier, more subtle, focused on the late night club moments. The ‘Beatless’ version is to listen to outside the club, or starting/ending the night.”

Murphy’s Law, to the brooding synth of Poseidon by Ukrainian duo Woo York, the realisation of Afterlife
utopia is upon us. The repetitive, mesmerising synth and effective reverb that Somne creates with Triangle
is an odyssey within itself. From there, John Hester’s expertly woven ‘Logan’ is a feverish techno stab that
transverses through the emotional senses, transitioning to Locked Groove’s adroitly crafted Emeralds, to
Ryan James Ford’s ambient, albeit percussive, techno cut Toree Bahrstad. Die Wiederkehr is the outcome
of Obscure Shape & SHDW’s collaboration, which incorporates facets of techno and trance that have
been shaped with real guile and finesse. Mind Against round off the compilation with Gravity - a
mystifying ambience and a fitting title as we touch back down to planet earth.

The ever reliable Lewis Fautzi returns to Soma with his furious brand of deep and hypnotic Techno. We also welcome debuts on the label in the form of two stunning remixes by international Techno stars, Sleeparchive & Sigha, who both turn in very unique takes on Fautzi's work.

Fautzi's Eerie opens the EP with deep pulsating rhythms and a real tripped out feel as each element of the track synchronises to create that perfect Techno tool. Berlin's Sleeparchive delivers an immense and ferocious version of Eerie, turning the deep original into a wild, mechanical workout. The darker vibes continue as Fautzi unleashes Horizontz with its stuttered percussive workout that punctuates rasping white noise and growling synths which modulate effortlessly through the track creating the desired tension. Our Circula Sound boss Sigha debuts on Soma and his version of Horizontz takes on a whole new life as his more subtle and melodic approach feeds a powerful and carefully crafted beast. Fautzi rounds off his latest Soma EP with Mental Circuits, once again going down a deep and murky path as understated rhythms through the synth and percussive work build the pressure.

Fautzi is calmly climbing into the higher echelons of the Techno scene and with releases like this, its clear to see why.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule.

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

Rebekah's touring schedule is more-than hectic but she still finds time to churn out her unmistakable brand of electronic music and she heads back to Soma to bring us the 'Anxiety' EP.

The three track EP is a blistering, face-melting exercise and we've got the first spin of the title track. 

It's an unsettling and nerve-shredding cut that piles on pressure from the off with pounding kicks and lean, rugged synths. Drop this at the right moment and expect chaos from your audience, trust us

Luke Slaterʼs Mote-Evolver label continues to enhance its enviable reputation amongst the techno ranks thanks to a consistently high quality output from acts whose musical range spans the techno genre. Recent highlights have included peak-time bombs from techno leviathans, Cari Lekebusch, Ortin Cam and Submerge as well as stunning EP of ultramodern techno from Finlandʼs Samuli Kemppi; the deep- space-techno of and the slick stylingʼs of Berghain tastemaker, Marcel Fengler.

Having taken a short summer break, Mote-Evolver is back with something very special. Luke Slaterʼs Planetary Assault Systems alias needs little introduction having been at the very heart of techno since 1993. Taken from the first ever Mote-Evolver EP, GT is remixed and reworked to bring a classic bang-up-to-date.

James Ruskin brings his classic Detroit inspired sounds into the mix; creating a meandering journey of a mix; bringing out all the futuristic, industrial robot-funk of the original, piecing together the elements into one soulful and hypnotic whole.

Function & Jerome Sydenham continue their successful production partnership to create a dark and heavy rework. With both producers styles evident in the mix the melting pot of parts comes together as deep, abrasive warehouse techno.

Fittingly, Slater gets in on the act too, providing a selection of P.A.S. Rhythm & Beats and his own P.A.S. ʻDrone Sectorʼ remix; transporting the original straight out of 2006 and into 2010 with all the mesmerizing exquisiteness the original still intact.

Planetary Assault Systems presents Deep Heet Volume 3, the third instalment of one of Luke Slater’s most seminal series to date on Mote-Evolver and carrying on the series of intergalactic exploration. 

Voltan rips the EP open. Inspired by the Mayan god of drums and the earth, Voltan is underpinned by primal desires. Huge bass drives the track forward and an angry undercarriage whirls deep below. Peppered with snares and licks of white noise, the EP starts as it means to go on.

Pygar’s futuristic sound palette is utterly hypnotic. Loops are layered insistently and despite the 4/4 structure a disorientating soundscape emerges. Filled with sounds that could just as well have been sampled from a space station as coaxed from a synthesiser, Pygar is optimised for the chaotic afterhours.

On the flip side the abstract references are abandoned in favour of the concrete. Turn erupts with syncopated rhythms, metallic rasps and mechanical warning signals. It’s the stuff of industrial nightmares.

Flat Tire is built on an angular bed of noise and interspersed with low, deep rumblings. The track fans outwards as ecstatic details are layered one upon another, ensuring that the EP closes on an enduringly hypnotic note.

Planetary Assault Systems has created four tracks that don’t play by the rules. Deep Heet Volume 3 is Luke Slater yet again innovating with four tracks that fuse together the experimental, the bold and the brutal.

Im Steven, a bedroom dj! I like music that evokes frisson (aesthetic chills). I mostly mix techno and uk hardcore. My first ever decks were Pioneer RXM9 CDJ's. I had them for over 10 years and never learned to dj! In late 2014 i bought a Numark Mixtrack Pro with Virtual DJ for mixing mp3's, and learned to beatmatch in a few weeks. In 2016 i upgraded to a Pioneer DDJ-SB2 with Serato, and made more mixes. Then in 2020 i bought a Pioneer DDJ-SB3 (Gold Edition) with Serato. Im considering a Hercules T7 Premium or Rane One controller, with motorised vinyl-style platters to learn scratching.

Favourite Genres: Terror, Uptempo Hardcore, Old School Gabber, Old Skool Rave, UK Hardcore, Trance, Techno, Tech House, Drum n Bass, IDM/Ambient, 90's Hip Hop, UK Grime, and some alternative rock/shoegaze/funk/jazz/soul/blues. I feel i should give a special mention to Bird Song. In all its melodic complexity, its associated with positive psychological effects, and is nature's finest music.
