Goldfat's motto is simple: ‘Built for the love, ran for the soul'. And if you look back at their discography, it's easy to see why they've earned themselves such a reputation for delivering exactly that. The brainchild of drum & bass producer Mitekiss, who's released scores of his own beautifully woven music on the imprint, Goldfat has built itself from strength to strength. 

Taking centre stage this time is Pin, having personally received A&R from Mitekiss and created a sound which is both docile yet craftily complex. Alongside Pin are a range of featuring artists who take on remix duties. New to Goldfat are ALB, Northern Zone and Subdivision, a trio who devise their own take on Pin's emerging stylistic anecdotes. Mikekiss has brought together a diverse spectrum of sound, one which stretches from one end of the EP to the other.

ALB and Subdivision take on ‘Sorrow Floats' but still manage to keep the vibe which is prevalent throughout its entirety. However, the track is diced up and at times you're thrown down into deeper levels, not quite following the same frequencies yet still manifesting the same calm atmospherics.

What with drum & bass becoming ever more international, at Lifestyle we wanted to champion this fact and help shine a spotlight on the growing scenes outside of the UK. After last years landmark ‘Australian Connection LP’ we have turned our attention slightly closer to home, this time having organised the ‘Belgian Connection LP’.

Belgium is country that has been synonymous with a strong rise in dnb in recent times, and we felt this country was the perfect place to launch the next release in our ‘Connection’ series.

The producers from the land of beer and chocolate have really delivered, showcasing an all-round album with a little bit of something for everyone. Liquid, Half-time, Neuro, Tech, Rollers, whatever you want to call it, this release has it…

We see this as another real defining moment for us as a label and Belgian drum & bass, and we couldn’t be prouder to be releasing this with our friends from just across the channel.

The album itself see 17 acts come together with a striking result, which shouldn’t be slept on by any disconcerting drum & bass fan.

In the world of music, there are many important partnerships: light and dark, kick and snare, drums and bass. So in 2018 when Bailey Greer deemed it necessary to make the long overdue move from sunny Australia to murky England and team up with Josh Croft, all in the name of music, only positivity could occur. After a strong string of releases on labels like Silent Audio, Goldfat and collaborations with the likes of Logistics and Saikon on Hospital Records, the pair positioned themselves at the forefront of the ever emerging talent on Soulvent.

Taking up the mantle from Pola & Bryson as Soulvent’s premier production pair, we are immensely proud to announce the debut album from In:Most, Voyager. The 16-track odyssey features appearances from scene stalwarts like Carasel and Lucy Kitchen, while flying high the flag of the next generation with fellow rising names like Walk:r and Mistrust. Embracing the concept of the journey was truly important to the pair on this record, wanting to push themselves outside of their comfort zone and challenge the listener as much as their own perception of their sound.

While the heady dancefloor highs of tracks like ‘Stay’ or ‘Do You’ might be what you’d expect from the pair’s last two singles, blistering tracks like ‘Embers’ and ‘Fever Dreams’ both attest to the beauty of collaboration, as well as the growing maturity in the young duo’s output.

Meanwhile the smooth tones of Ukranian born Anastasia’s vocals grace the glittering foundations of ‘Home’ whilst Lucy Kitchen’s familiar and comforting voice on ‘Glimmer’ provide the stellar female-led element of the record. For that unmistakable In:Most liquid sound, look no further than the likes of ‘Silver Lining’ with Walk:r, it’s beautiful guitar and piano lines linking up effortlessly - or the warming wah-wah washes of ‘Notions’ against it’s twinkling arps and soft pads.

Both a fun and engaging change of pace, ‘Scuba’ ushers in some serious garage flavour, with a playful take on the genre with a boundless, bubbling bassline.

Could a debut album out of Cambridge be complete without featuring a member of Drum & Bass royalty like Hospital Records veteran, Logistics? ‘Fixated’ blends raspy percussion with swirling sub bass and uplifting top notes with a drifting, drawn out vocal sample that shows the boys really can run with the big dogs.

Coming back into port, with the peaceful outro that is ‘Harbour’, we are reminded once again that In:Most’s production capability is not contained by drum and bass or tempos above 170 and their journey to get to this point has been long, varied and truly unforgettable.

12 months in the making, and undeniably worth every second of the wait - we welcome you to grab a 1st class ticket, sit back and relax, and enjoy the ride. ‘Voyager’ is out in all good stores on the 3rd of April.

Drum & bass is often reassuringly structured and formulaic; tracks made up of beats, bars and phrases. These units of musical measure provide the foundations for MCs and vocalists alike to lay their souls on the line. Jaye ‘Siege’ Balmer has spent his life in the 16 and returns to Soulvent with another 4 track EP, underpinned by some stellar production, that further brandishes the hype-man’s ability to get lyrical.

Opening with a slew of varying hi-hats, ‘Drawn To Leave’ is an emotive tune that sees Siege reflect on his past in an introspective fashion. Calming keys and warm low end provide the perfect setting for these expressive musings. 

‘Plastic People’ is a weighty club belter with punchy drums and simmering, twinkling synths. While the lyrics explore the idea that not everyone you meet is as they appear, Siege’s carefully crafted bars also complement the swelling bassline with the meticulous, ready-for-anything approach of a certain well seasoned international spy. 

‘Wide Open’s rousing intro has all the hallmarks of a euphoric dancefloor banger and the  infectious vocal hook will no doubt have you singing along within a few listens. A welcome melodic change of pace for the Bristolian bar slinger but an equally successful transition. 

Last up, ‘Template’ colours outside the lines providing the grittier, tearout element of the EP. Smatterings of vocal intersperse the glitchy, pulsing soundscape on offer, producing a satisfying and hypnotic final product.  

Come and get some insight into the life inside the 16, be shaken and stirred by Siege’s weaponised lyrics, released in all good stores and streaming services on 26th June.
