Refuge Worldwide presents Regenerate - our first festival weekender -
free to attend, online & offline, across 24-26th September, 2021. Taking place at the Refuge Worldwide radio studio and Oona bar on Weserstraße in Berlin Neukölln, we presented DJ sets, workshops, panel discussions, comedy and live performance.

Current systems within which we live are drastically failing us. With gross inequality, environmental destruction, climate change, and systemic racism - we need to step away from the idea of simply sustaining what is currently in place and instead reimagining our ecosystems in a way which is regenerative and restorative. 

Our festival theme is centered around cycles of growth and renewal, developing a deeper understanding and a closer relationship with our social frameworks, ecosystems, and selves.

This tuesday’s back to back session on @caldera-caldera’s @1btn show went effortlessly well. Thanks very much to Malte for reaching out to suggest the collaboration, all based on his instinctual hunch that our musical styles would resonate - he couldn’t have been more correct….this was a magical meeting of minds, musically we really gelled, and I found the whole process highly enjoyable and inspiring. Techno über-veterans Tobias Freund and Uwe Schmidt join Bryan Kasenic in New York to dig into their extensive discographies.

Tobias Freund and Uwe Schmidt are two names techno fans come across often. And while each has worked extensively on his own – Freund has mixed records for artists ranging from Milli Vanilli to Efdemin and released propulsive techno under the name tobias. since his classic Street Knowledge EP in 2006, while Schmidt has put out more albums under more pseudonyms than we’re prepared to tally – their decades-spanning musical partnership has resulted in some of the most arresting music either has had a hand in. The pair met in Frankfurt around 1990 and were part of a circle that included Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack and Luciano. They began prolifically collaborating and performing live, first under their aliases Atom Heart and Pink Elln, and later, after consolidating their solo music-making under one name each, as Atom™ and Tobias. They regularly whip up luxuriously muscular live sets at such techno institutions as Berghain in Berlin, the Labyrinth in Japan and the Bunker in New York, which recently brought them through the city. During their stay, Bunker boss Bryan Kasenic brought them through the studio to discuss both their solo and collaborative work, and play an exclusive snippet of their most recent live set for the party.
