Western Canadian Artist James Hopkins joins refused. with his second EP under his OHNIN alias titled “Area Code.”  The title track, “Area Code” blends rolling drums with deep and dark atmospheric background sounds perfect for the late night or early morning dance floor. “Tripped In” picks up again with a sharp, grooving beat accompanied by chopped up eerie vocals that completely bring the track to life.  The third offering, “Makes Me Feel,” brings a slightly more laid back piece with a pulsating synth line running throughout, as well as heavily transposed vocal samples.  We hope you enjoy this three track selection from newcomer OHNIN and expect more great things in the future from him.

British producer wAFF has been making waves in recent years, reflecting on a diligent 2015 spent playing across the likes of Europe, Africa, Asia and the States, when not making routine appearances at Paradise, Ibiza. As a producer he’s dropped several lauded releases on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations imprint, not to mention Matthias Tanzmann’s Moon Harbour and Sven Väth’s Cocoon, with his next outing landing on renowned Swedish label Drumcode run by techno titan Adam Beyer.

Laying down hard hitting kicks from the off, ‘Holographic’ churns out an undulating synth combined with shuffling hats and a cavernous low-end, before ‘VibrationZ’ employs a low-slung groove fashioned from a sultry bassline, floating chords and sinister vocal. Tying it together, ‘Syncronistic’ is on a more heads down tip with whirring atmospherics, crunchy snares and subtle 303 squelches for a lengthy and mesmerising piece of production.

Loosely centered around the initial vocals, Loco & Jam’s makeover explores the track’s captivating snappy narrative. The more rhythm focused 'Ipuza' gets a special treatment from Hidden Empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. Zakari & Blange downplay the track’s initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

It would take none other than label boss Justin James to be the featured artist contributing to refused.’s landmark 100th release. It also should come as no surprise that this offering would be a project of epic proportions. The result is Justin’s second full-length album, Reset. This double-digit collection of tunes showcases James’ passion for the underground world of techno; ranging from stripped down, minimal and groovy tracks to full throttle, room rattling, techno compositions. As diverse as Reset is, there is no doubt the high-quality music production and signature style that has become synonymous with Justin James shines though, as usual.
