Reggae Roast has built some serious momentum recently especially after the unveiling of their brand new, hand-crafted soundsystem, a series of critically acclaimed releases and sell out shows across the UK & Europe. As a result they are slowly establishing themselves as one of the top Reggae outfits in the world. To celebrate they are proud to release what is set to be one of the big tunes of summer 2015, ‘Soundsystem’. 

“We want a big soundsystem up inna di place!” UK Reggae veteran Brother Culture chants over the top of a heavyweight digital stormer of a track produced by the Reggae Roast crew which instantly sets the vibe. ‘Soundsystem’ has been shaking speaker stacks from London to Lithuania and Bristol to Budapest and it’s guaranteed will mash up any dancehall! 

Brother Culture is somewhat of a legend in the Reggae music game and has been promoting the positive message of Rastafari through his music for over 30 years. Hailing from Brixton, BC was an original member of the revered Jah Revelation Muzik Soundsystem in 1982 and he has since worked with many of the top sounds & producers over the years, including Manasseh & Mungo’s Hi-Fi. 

To complete the release package we’ve asked the mighty Benny Page (Digital Soundboy) to remix the track the way only he can. Benny’s name is synonymous with tight production, monstrous bass-weight and clinical mixing skills and this remix is a true representation of his style. Expect Brother Culture’s hard Ragga vox, thunderous bass and heavy, heavy drum patterns presented with style. 

With a full year of crucial releases scheduled and soundsystem sessions booked worldwide, 2015 is set to be one of the best years so far for Reggae Roast so keep them eyes peeled!

Now on the seventeenth release of forward thinking UK Reggae & Dub music, Reggae Roast are going from strength to strength with many underground hits under their belt already in 2013. This release definitely follows suit, having already done the rounds on dubplate for many months and set alight dances all over the world. They’ve signed up one of the top up and coming UK producers, Adam Prescott, and one of the top mic men on the scene, Charlie P. On remix duty they’ve drawn for the vanguard of dub, Iration Steppas, and digikal stalwart, Tradesman.

With this double A-side release Reggae Roast have lined up two heavy hitting bubblers built to test any soundsystem. ‘Lazy Man’ is a contemporary steppas reimagining of the stone cold classic ‘My Conversation’ by the late, great Slim Smith which is accentuated by Charlie P’s take on the advantages of being Lazy in modern day Britain. ‘Stand Firm’ on the flipside is a slice of ruff & tuff Rootstep with conscious lyrics from Charlie P alongside weighty bass assault and a hard rhythm section from Adam Prescott it’s a stark contrast to ‘Lazy Man’.

Straight outta Nottingham, Adam Prescott has been mashing up dances for many years now combining a crucial selection of dubplates and his own varied productions, which are always steeped in Roots music and Soundsystem culture. Having remixed some of the biggest names in Reggae & Dub such as Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Iration Steppas, Part2Style, Alpha Steppa, Radikal Guru, Vibration Lab and many, many more over the course of his career he has been finally let loose on a Reggae Roast extended player.

Charlie P hardly needs any introduction, however if you have been living under a rock for the past few years he has worked with pretty much everyone worth their salt within the modern day Dub circuit, such as Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Dubateers, Solo Banton, Part2Style to name but a few. Constantly touring the world and smashing Dancehalls on a regular basis Charlie shows no sign of slowing down, add to that he has just finished his second LP produced by none other than Scotland’s finest, Mungo’s Hi-Fi

In the Soundsystem game for over 20 years Mark Iration, one half of Iration Steppas (with Dennis Rootical), has been instrumental in the massive resurgence of Dub music over the past few years. Having set up the legendary Subdub sessions (alongside Outlook Festival’s Simon Scott) to showcase the mighty Iration Steppas Soundsystem, Mark is one of the most in-demand selectors on the scene. As a supporter of Adam’s work Mark has been playing his ‘Year 3000 Dub’ of ‘Lazy Man’ at nuff sessions across the world to sell out audiences. With another busy year planned hot off the back of their new LP ‘Iration Steppas Meets Tena Stelin in the Dub Arena’ Mark and the rest of the crew deserve their place at the top of the Soundsystem league. 

Hailing from Leeds, Tradesman has been exposed to a hot bed of musical activity, more importantly Soundsystem culture, for a number of years. He is a resident at one of Subdub’s more underground offshoots, Dancehall Science, and regularly supports some of the most exciting artists in Dub music today playing sets where the majority of the tunes are his own productions. This has, in turn, led to Scotch Bonnet (Mungo’s Hi-Fi imprint) snapping up his debut release with Parly B, ‘Inna Competition’ which gained support from some of the scene’s top players and took Tradesman’s ruffneck digital sound international. 

Reggae Roast is building a formidable catalogue featuring some of the most exciting artists in the UK and beyond. Key players in the resurgence of the UK Roots scene over the past 5 years, they are a leading light in the new generation of dub music. Setting them apart from the crowd is their ruff n tuff remixes giving the label a unique cross over appeal. Parly B:  What a year it has been for this man. Having established his reputation with the Skints, Parly has gone on to take 2013 by storm establishing himself as the most saught after MC on the UK dancehall scene with recent hits on Mungo’s Hi Fi’s Scotch Bonnet and Reggae Roast amoung many others. His track ‘Dem a Fight’ on this release is arguably his biggest and baddest to date and sets a message of intent for 2014. Jago came to fame as the front man of dub/reggae outfit Onlyjoe and brings his rugged, energetic style to the release with great effect. Jago’s cut, entitled Ilani, is a tribute to his first daughter who has been a continual source of  inspiration to him. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album, entitled ‘Jago And Friends’ which is set to be released in early 2014 and is set to make big waves in the UK Reggae scene and beyond.

J-man delivers an absolute killer of a Jungle remix that is sure to excite Europe's vast sea of Jungle fanatics. Fast becoming one of the most talked about up and coming producers on the UK underground rave circuit, Bristol's dub plate munching badman has been taking the scene by storm with his trademark style of party flexed Ragga-Jungle. Having just signed to Run Tingz Records and with his debut album soon to drop, things are heating up for this exciting talent.

FLeCK: Next up we have FLeCK ,an electronic music producer extraordinaire hailing from Athens, Greece, who hits us with a down tempo 140 BPM Jungle reworking. RUFF an TUFF this is a hard hitting alternative to the original and brings brand new flavour to the release. Having made big waves in the electronic music scene since the 90s, FLeCK’s music has found its way into the record boxes of the likes Public Enemy’s DJ Lord, Rusko and many others as well featuring on Diplo’s Mad Decent blog and massive radio support.

The EP kicks off the title track ‘The Flava’, a seriously weighty riddim which Brother Culture rides with ease & style. His imitable style of con- scious lyrics & vocal gymnastics is showcased throughout the EP, espe- cially on the second track, ‘Bring Up Di Weed’. Produced by Ribs AKA Robert Fearon, this early UK digital bomb was as important to the sound of modern day Reggae as King Jammy’s influential ‘Sleng Teng' and it continues to set any dancehall alight. Conscious Sound’s fresh take on the riddim sits somewhere between the original heavyweight digital style he’s known for and one of Dr. Dre’s signature tracks ‘The Next Episode’. With the dubwise version on the flip of the 7” this release is an essential piece for any serious selector’s record box. Flash it! 

Kenny Knots has been flying the flag for UK Reggae for over three decades and has worked with some of the best record labels, soundsystems and producers worldwide. With crucial long playing sets on Dubateers, Jah Tubby’s, Conscious Sound imprints & Mungo’s Hi-Fi’s, Scotch Bonnet, it’s no wonder Kenny is one of the most in-demand singjay’s on the planet. 

Conscious Sound (Dougie Wardrop) is a production powerhouse based in London. He’s responsible for a vast quantity of genre defining records & LP’s since 1989 and he continues to churn out hits on a daily basis at his custom built studio in Hackney which started with a 4-track Mixing desk he purchased from another UK Reggae stalwart, Nick Manasseh. Still touring and releasing records at a phenomenal rate, Dougie shows no signs of slowing down!

‘We Rule The Dance’ is a deep & heavy baseline bubbler, built to test any soundsystem! It’s a contemporary reimagining of the 80’s digital style pioneered by King Jammy as well as Steelie & Cleevie, which is accentuated by Tenor Youthman’s ‘Nitty Gritty’ vocal stylings. Full to the brim with soundclash lyrics, authentic Casio keyboard licks and airhorns this release is sure to set any dancehall alight.

Interrupt is relatively new to the scene and only starting producing in 2012, however his take on the digital Reggae style of the late 1980’s is some of the best there is. Now based in London, Interrupt continues to provide his own individual upbeat vibe, which features old-school drum machines, bold basslines and colourful synthesizers. Having worked with Speng Bong, Cubiculo Records and Spanish singers Ponchita Peligros & George Palmer, he already has significant hits under his belt and shows no signs of slowing down.

There’s no doubt about about it, Sensi Skank is set to be the Ganja Anthem of 2012. This 6 mix release by Ruben Da Silva featuring Skinnyman is set to shake speaker stacks across the land, and is already garnering support from David Rodigan and DJ Hype (Kiss FM), and a host of other top DJs. The Track has been tastefully dubbed by Manasseh and remixed by D&B heavyweights Placid. Twist it all all together and fire it up, for a red hot, smoking release.

Ruben Da Silva, who is quickly becoming a major force in the British roots scene after his recent dance-floor smasher ‘Bless A Sound’ has once again shown why he‘s one of the hottest new voices in town. The beautifully distinctive tone to his vocal carries the track as he begrudges the fact that he is criminalized for smoking the ‘righteous weed’ and forced to smoke undercover.

Skinnyman, the long time outspoken advocator of the legalisation of cannabis makes a rare but unforgettable appearance, as ever his flow and delivery are second to none. In the same vain as his critically acclaimed album ‘Council Estate of Mind’, Skinnyman once again delivers a socially analytical commentary, which demonstrates why he is one of the most popular and well respected rappers ever to come out of the Britain.

Murray Man, a true veteran of the UK Roots scene, has been running sound systems since the 80‘s. More recently he has turned his attentions to running his very own Mellow Vibes imprint. His distinctive Digi-Roots production style has been smashing up dance-floors across the world with underground hits such as Crying Shame.

Nick Manasseh became one of the most respected DJ / producers in British reggae when he began hosting his seminal weekly Kiss FM slot, which ran for over a decade. He has helped to generate an interest in Roots music across the UK with his killer dance-floor selections and crisp authentic production values. Manasseh has once again mixed and dubbed the latest Reggae Roast offering, adding depth, definition and his distinctive sound to the release.

Placid from the Undiluted Records camp, also the home of Ed Solo and Brockie, are on remix duties and come with a hard hitting Drum n Bass stomper that is sure to mash up dance-floors across the globe. Trojan Reloaded have proudly announced details of their newest musical offering ‘The Music’,  a brand new EP from one of the UK’s leading sound system collectives- Reggae Roast. Comprised of five tracks, the record features an all-star lineup of musical greats with features from the likes of  Brother Culture, Jah Screechy, Natty Campbell, Shumba Youth, Donavon King Jay, and Clapper Priest.

Since forming in 2007, Reggae Roast have forged a reputation as the leading light in the resurgence of the UK Dub / Reggae scene. The release of ‘The Music’ EP breathes new life into a sound system classic affirming Reggae Roast as key players in the new wave of British Reggae all whilst keeping the original spirit of the genre alive.

The EP features five tracks on the 'None a Jah Jah Children No Cry' riddim, originally recorded by Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus in 1975, and remade by Fashion Records in the late 1980's for the track 'We a Blood' by Junior Delgado, both of which went on to become classics in the reggae and sound system world.
‘The Music’ EP  reversions these tracks to give them space and cultural relevance within the 21st century, with brand new vocal cuts from some of the most talented MCs and vocalists in the country including Brother Culture and Jah Screechy.

It also features a brilliant all-star track featuring all the Reggae Roast Soundsystem vocalists, with Donovan Kingjay, Brother Culture, Natty Campbell, Clapper Priest and Shumba Youth, each on their own verses, collectively offering a real fusion of mix and sounds.

Reggae Roast are signed to Trojan records imprint label, Trojan Reloaded with the collectives debut album to be released via the new label.

In 2015 Reggae Roast built their own custom Soundsystem pushing the boundaries of soundsystem aesthetics, taking soundsystem design into the 21st century. Their soundsystem remains the cornerstone of their events and with it they have run stages at prestigious festivals such as Glastonbury, Outlook Festival (Croatia), Secret Garden Party, Eastern Electric, Boomtown, Telerama Dub Festival (France) and many more. 

At their events they have hosted some of the biggest names in Reggae including  Horace Andy, The Wailers, Lee Scratch Perry, Sly and Robbie, Collie Budz, Mad Professor, David Rodigan, Suggs (Madness), Channel One, Trojan Sound, Gappy Ranks, Finley Quaye, Aba Shanti I, Mungo’s Hi Fi and many many more. 

Reggae Roast have built a strong fanbase over the years with nearly 200,000 social media followers. They have racked up over 8 million plays on Soundcloud alone and their monthly podcasts receives 10s of thousands of plays. They have played all over the world from India and Thailand to the UK and back. This year they were personally asked by Shy FX and Chase & Status to play at their events.

Reggae Roast are dedicated to bringing reggae and soundsystem culture to a new generation and are steadily building a formidable catalogue of releases and achievements.
