Former Tonight Show Bandleader Doc Severinson was recently subject of the PBS Documentary Series American Masters. The documentary chronicles the 93 year old's career in entertainment from the era of the big band to his time on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and life after The Tonight Show when Doc toured ceaselessly because he couldn't stop playing trumpet. On the latest edition of Sean at the Movies I talk with star Dilan Jay and Director Daniel Zirelli about their throwback action movie Hollow Point. Hollow Point tells the story of an ethics professor, played by Dilan Jay, who loses his wife and daughter to a horrific murderer. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction is not an easy topic for some to discuss. It involves incontinence, constipation, bowel issues, pelvic pain and some pregnancy related issues. Katie Roebush is a physical therapist at Memorial Hospital in Carthage who specializes in treating Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and she's encouraging those who are having issues with incontinence, bowel issues, constipation and other pelvic region issues to talk to her. A new documentary is bringing a lost yet influential music star back into the spotlight. In the early 1970s singer-songwriter Judee Sill overcame drug addiction, time in prison, and the absence of her family, to become a pop recording artist. Signed to David Geffen's influential record label, Sill was all set for stardom but it never fully arrived. Though her music was loved by a large core of fans and especially by fellow musicians, she never found chart success and fell into obscurity before dying tragically young in 1979. Documentarians Andy Brown and Brian Lindstrom found Judee's music and have spent the past decade working on bringing her legend back to life. They've done that with the new brilliant documentary Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill. Brian and Andy spoke with Wake Up Tri-Counties about the documentary on Tuesday morning.

Kewanee Back When Remebering Kewanees Vietnam Casualties

On the latest edition of Kewanee Back When, Dave and Sean start out on a short series of true crime episodes from Kewanee's history. Today we began with the shocking and still unsolved murder of Kewanee resident Sandra Brown. Early in the morning on August 8th, 1978, Sandra Brown took her dog for a walk and never came home. On August 10th, her body was found in a ravine, about a quarter of a mile outside of Kewanee, on IL-78. A coroner's inquest in October of that year revealed that Brown had nearly been decapitated. Investigators could find no motive for someone wanting to kill Brown who had only moved to Kewanee one year prior to her death. Despite a thorough and methodical investigation, Kewanee and Henry County investigators were unable to solve the crime. 45 years later Dave and Sean dig through what is known about the case and hopefully shed some new light on one of the few unsolved murders in the history of Kewanee. The group is modeled after a similar group in Panora, Iowa, which just so happens to be the boyhood home of local retiree John Teale who started the Maryville chapter.They are a group of what is now 137 members who donate $100 quarterly to a chosen local charity.   The perspective recipients of the money are submitted to the members. Then, through a random draw, three are chosen to make a presentation to the group for a final decision on the winning organization.  Checks are then written directly to the recipient by each member.  There are no admin fees or bank accounts to manage. As you can imagine  $13,700 is nothing to sneeze at!

The Galva City Council met on Monday night at Galva City Hall. Mayor Rich Volkert spoke to WKEI about the meeting and the items on the agenda including a presentation about community development from Hometown Consultants. The City Council then approved a brand new Blue Star Program. The Blue Star Program has citizens going through a process to become a safe place for kids to go if they feel in danger. The Blue Star Program was in place years ago and the Council has decided to bring it back. Bomani Jones is a sportswriter turned television personality. For a number of years he was a popular guest across many shows on ESPN. Known for his thoughtful yet often fiery takes on the sports issues of the day, it was inevitable that Jones would host his own show. The Henry and Stark County Health Department reports that the latest COVID-19 numbers in Henry and Stark County are down, including hospitalizations. There were 52 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 between the two counties over the past 7 days. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department gave us the latest numbers and tells WKEI that there is no new guidance yet regarding Booster Shots. Currently, the only guidance is that if you have not gotten your Bivalent Booster, you should get it. Meanwhile, today, January 26th, brought the first in a series of Public Health Events being held by the Henry and Stark County Health Department. Other states are watching how the fight over No Cash Bail in Illinois plays out in front of the Illinois Supreme Court. Author, Lawyer and former member of law enforcement, Lance Lorusso spoke with Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday, January 27th, 2023, and stated that other states looking at following Illinois' lead on eliminating cash bail are waiting to see whether this provision of the SAFE-T Act in Illinois can withstand a court challenge or whether it will be deemed unconstitutional.

Macy has recently formed a non-profit that offers financial and other kinds of support to families who have lost someone to police brutality. The MyGood Foundation was formed specifically to help pay for the burial fees and provide counseling services and financial aid to families devastated in the wake of police brutality incident. Much can be lost as people debate what can be done about incidents of police brutality and often lost in that debate are the needs of the families who've lost a loved one. That's what the MyGood Foundation was created for, to make sure the families are not forgotten. We also talked music, of course, with Macy having a new record coming in February and the long lasting legacy of her biggest hit, the Grammy winning "I Try."
