Progressive house

Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

Here we tighten our fists. The upper town is ridged while we raise our eyes up to the leaden sky. As to atone for mistakes and weaknesses.
Here we tighten our fists and look up to the blue stain in the sky – which is really never that blue – and we find ourselves deserting our lives for an instant.
Over there is that fuzzy silence where we can hear as deep as the jumps of our heart. Over there, love is not just a vain word – overused and banished from here : over there is a heart swollen with fresh blood spilling in countless ramifications. Here, our heart is wringing and we are taught how to hate what we once loved. Over there is a no man’s land but there is softness. No worries : our memories are barding and protecting us, and all is still to be done : quivers of excitement without a hitch, laughs without pain, and life in the combination of blood and tears. ...And there is that Music, oddly soft and repetitive, a languidness as after Love, streching and posessing us. And where that blackness coils up from dark to light flows, from light to dark flows, from black and white pictures passing before our eyes like out of a shaker, and grab our heart. ...
Their world is within us, close and yet strange, antagonist and yet familiar, a world where a high perched musician who learned the ropes in classical scales blends with a DJ deaply rooted in the Dance Floor. Plenitude merging with frenzy, sensuality with barbarian...
Enter their sensual and soft world, enter their hardline and pure techno, relaxing and feverish, haunting us like a fairy tale we would let someone whisper into our ear. Enter this world where music slaps our heart, to lead us straight, softly, from SIDE CHAIN to SIDE CHAIN until we reach artificial paradise and euphoria.
ENTER their world in order to enter another one : their music knocks down the borders between Here and Over There, softens stigmatas and reveals our fantasies.
A world remaining unexplored where one must listen, behind the notes, to our own heartbeats, delivered from their avatars.
