Many artists recognise just how imperative the full package which is provided with their music is to an EP’s release. This is why Ironlung, alongside hard lined imprint Cre8 Dnb, is held so highly within his sphere. It’s because he knows what it means to be an artist and this filters through each of his records, although this time he’s gone above and beyond, drawing the release’s inspiration from a recent event which saw him take in a Sparrow after finding it injured in the woods. After nursing it back to health over months, and even naming it aptly, the idea of a ‘Jack Sparrow’ themed project came into play. And following his creative imaginings, and creating four brand new tracks to feature on the release, the title ‘Black Pearl’ and the output’s artwork came together, drawn from the movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. The bird is now part of his family and as a result, there’s even a track dedicated to the animal, with ‘Jack Sparrow’ sitting as a focus for the EP and giving a snapshot into Ironlung’s musical skillset as well as his strident imagination. 

‘Lifes a break’ also marks the track listing, punching forward on a quick fire bassline and strident pads which switch effortlessly beneath its gradual breakdown. And then comes ‘Mutton Dressed as Lamb’, unforgiving and tightly-knit, as well-honed as its predecessor but also administrating its own spark from start to finish. ‘Supper Time’ creates just as much audible manipulation, bringing forward an engineering which oozes the same slick style whilst packing a kick with every drum pattern sitting beneath the track’s mix. ‘Jack Sparrow’ brings the EP to an end, leaving you with the idea which helped to bring the release to life whilst adding a depth to the full parcel. 

It’s an exciting time for both Ironlung and Cre8 Dnb. This EP signifies a shift in a different direction, with a full encapsulation of what art is about, proving that each release isn’t just about the music. It shows a varying outlook on drum & bass and their vision behind it, proving Cre8 Dnb are just as exciting as its more longstanding competitors.

Rekage is the combined title of Rekless who runs Ten Ton Beats & Liquid label Ten Tons Deeper, and sub bass terrorist Damageman who is making huge waves on the jump up scene with his unique bvass heavy sound. They did their first colab on the 5 years of Ten Ton Beats LP with a track called 'Be Careful' they seemed to gel well in the studio so they returned to the studio and decided to make it something more permanent under a combined title. With the first EP almost complete its a good time to get involved with this duo who have many years experience in the scene, under this new title they both feel its time to up the levels.
